Most of the Syphon Filter series has been rated for newer PlayStation consoles in Korea, pointing to a PlayStation Plus Premium release. Bend Studio's Syphon Filter series follows special agents Gabriel Logan and Lian Xing as they are tasked with stopping a series of terrorist attacks. The titles, which were originally released for the PlayStation, PlayStation 2, and PSP, could be exciting additions to newer consoles for fans of classic, tactical gameplay.

Earlier this month, Sony announced their new model for their subscription service, PlayStation Plus. The service will consisted of three tiers. The base tier "Essentials" will be similar to the current PlayStation Plus model and offer online play, discounts, and a handful of monthly free games. The "Extra" tier offers everything in Essentials alongside 400+ downloadable PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 titles, and the highest tier, "Premium" will offer everything in Essentials and Extra alongside further downloadable PlayStation, PlayStation 2 & PSP titles, as well as additional streamable PS3 games.

According to Gematsu, the Game Rating and Administration Committee of Korea has rated Syphon Filter, Syphon Filter 2, Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror, and Syphon Filter: Logan’s Shadow for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 consoles. However, Syphon Filter 3 and Syphon Filter: The Omega Strain were not included in the list of potential titles. Because the Syphon Filter series was originally released on older consoles, it is possible the rereleased games are intended for the "Premium" tier of the upcoming PlayStation Plus package. While this could be good news for those wanting to play the series, it could also be frustrating for gamers wanting to avoid paying the highest subscription option.

The Syphon Filter series was released between the 1990s and 2000s, at a time when tactical espionage and stealth games were more popular on the market. This included similar titles like Metal Gear Solid and the Splinter Cell series. Despite an Easter egg in Bend Studio's game Days Gonethe Syphon Filter franchise, and the tactical stealth genre, seem to be less popular than they were in earlier decades. Syphon Filter's last game was released in 2007, Metal Gear Solid was left up in the air following its creator Hideo Kojima's departure from Konami in 2015, and Splinter Cell hasn't had a major release since 2013's Splinter Cell: Blacklist, indicating that release of Syphon Filter on newer consoles could be less popular than other titles potentially included in the PlayStation Premium package.

Despite the potential lack of newer audience interest, the possibility of Syphon Filter coming to PlayStation Plus will likely be exciting for fans of tactical stealth games. It is even possible that access to the older games on newer consoles could help revitalize the genre, leading to new Syphon Filter games in the future.
