SYNCED: Off-Planet is a new battle royale game announced at this year's Gamescom. It puts a new spin on the PvE/PvP battle royale sub-genre, allowing players to take control of weakened AI enemies to use as companions. The SYNCED: Off-Planet Gamescom showcase ended by announcing users can now sign up for a chance to access the closed Advanced Alpha test, which is taking place in September.

SYNCED: Off-Planet is set in a near future where one of humanity's greatest technological achievements turned against it. The Morpheus Chip, a powerful brain-computer interface that "hardwired people into the internet," according to narrative director Kevin Shortt, was corrupted by a system update glitch. This manipulated the nanotechnology in the chips to take over their hosts and turned them into hostile machines known as Nanos. Now, the survivors fight against the Nanos, and each other, in order to get seats onboard the off-planet shuttles.

Next Studios, developer of SYNCED: Off-Planet, is touting the game as defining a new sub-genre it's calling the "companion-based shooter." This is because one of the game's core mechanics is sees players weakening Nanos and overriding their code in order to turn them into a companion that can fight for them, defend them, and reveal enemies around them.

For a game that can be played solo or as a trio, this mechanic could shake up the traditionally isolated battle royale experience, allowing SYNCED: Off-Planet players' friendly AI teammates to fight against other players and other AI. With the Advanced Alpha opening September 3, Next Studios is now letting users register for a chance to gain access and test just how this "companion-based shooter" plays out.

To sign up, go to syncedoffplanet.com and click "Sign Up Now !" Doing so opens a questionnaire that includes the following required fields: email address, age, country of residence, preferred genres and shooter games, whether the user has a Steam account, and whether their PC meets the game's minimum requirements. After filling everything out, agreeing to the final terms and conditions completes the registration. Users then just need to wait for a potential invite. While no one is guaranteed access to the Advanced Alpha, Next Studios assured those who register "will still be entitled to this test's exclusive rewards" and that there will be more chances to play SYNCED: Off-Planet in the future.
