Mob boss Sylvester Stallone makes a violent threat in an intense new clip from the crime series Tulsa King. Movie star Stallone makes his starring scripted TV drama debut in the upcoming Paramount+ series from Taylor Sheridan. The highly-anticipated show's cast also includes Max Casella, Domenick Lombardozzi, Vincent Piazza, Martin Starr, Garrett Hedlund and Dana Delany.
Tulsa King creator Sheridan has of course created his own TV empire in concert with Paramount+, unleashing such series as Yellowstone, Mayor of Kingstown and 1883. A big part of Sheridan’s small-screen success has indeed been achieved through attracting big-screen stars like Kevin Costner, Jeremy Renner and – most notably – Harrison Ford, who is set to star in Sheridan’s other upcoming show 1923. Stallone too could not resist Sheridan’s call, and has signed on for his first-ever significant scripted TV series role in Tulsa King, a crime drama that also boasts The Sopranos’ Terence Winter as showrunner.
A recent teaser trailer actually gave viewers their first look at Stallone as mobster Dwight "The General" Manfredi in Tulsa King. Now Stallone himself has shared a brief clip of his kingpin character showing his violent temper and unleashing some threats as well as some choice language. See the fiery clip in the space below:
Tulsa King’s storyline sees New York mob capo Manfredi getting freed from prison after a 25-year stint and being sent to the relative backwater of Tulsa, Oklahoma to set up a new criminal enterprise. Manfredi must then put together a new crew of morally dubious accomplices to help him set up shop in this unfamiliar environment, It’s indeed a big advantage having Winter onboard the series as showrunner, given his experience dealing with similar mafia characters on HBO’s acclaimed series The Sopranos. It also helps having Sheridan’s magic TV touch involved in bringing Tulsa King to life.
But of course the biggest selling point of Tulsa King has to be the presence of Stallone, an actor who is a legend of the big screen but has never had a significant presence on television or streaming. The above clip suggests that Stallone will be at his most fiery and dramatic playing mobster Manfredi, a big fish in a small and unfamiliar pond. It remains to be seen of course if Stallone’s larger-than-life movie star skills translate successfully to the small screen. But the team behind Tulsa King is surely very impressive and the show looks to be a fine showcase for Stallone as he joins other long-in-the-tooth stars like Costner and Ford in the ever-expanding Sheridan TV universe.
