In a new behind-the-scenes video, Sylvester Stallone announces that production on his upcoming Paramount+ television show Tulsa King has begun. Audiences best know the actor from his role as Rocky Balboa in the critically acclaimed and commercially successful Rocky series, for which he received an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor. His reprisal of the now-iconic character in 2015's Creed earned Stallone a Golden Globe Award. With parts in other well-known projects like Guardians of the GalaxyRambo, and The Expendables, Stallone has managed to continually produce box office hits and remains popular among audiences.

Created by Taylor Sheridan, Tulsa King will tell the story of an Italian mobster who deals with the challenging task of reestablishing his mafia family in Kansas City, Missouri. While Stallone has had a long career in film, he has only made a handful of appearances in television shows. Prior to Tulsa King, he hosted the boxing reality competition series The Contender, and for some time rumors swirled surrounding a Rambo show before they were eventually refuted. In 2016, Stallone was set to star in Omerta, which would have marked his first lead acting role in a television series, though there have been no more updates on its development and the project has seemingly stalled.

In addition to Tulsa King, Stallone will be keeping busy in the coming months as he's set to star in the upcoming Samaritan and The Expendables 4. He has also been confirmed to return in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, where he will reprise his role as Stakar Ogord. Recently, he appeared in yet another James Gunn project, voicing the character of Nanaue/King Shark in the 2021 film The Suicide Squad.

For fans of Stallone, it may come as a surprise that the actor, with a filmography as long as his, has not starred as the lead in a television series before. Creator Taylor Sheridan has found massive success crafting other Paramount+ shows, like the western Yellowstone and its prequel series, 1883. It will be interesting to see his visionary take on the mafia genre. More news surrounding the show continues to be released, so eager viewers can look forward to finding out more about Tulsa King soon.
