SYFY announces that their upcoming comic book adaptation Happy! will be premiering in November. The series, an adaptation of the Grant Morrison book of the same name, follows a drunk, corrupt ex-cop turned hit man after he starts to see a tiny winged blue horse wherever he goes. It's a darkly funny concept with its fair share of violence and surrealism, and was ordered to series back in May.

Since then, SYFY released a teaser trailer for the series at this year's San Diego Comic-Con, showcasing Christopher Meloni's Nick Sax as he struggles to cope with despair at the state of his miserable life. The trailer ends with the first glimpse of the title character, Happy (Patton Oswalt), as Nick wakes up in an ambulance and sees him for the first time. Now, the network has excited fans by announcing the official premiere date for the end of this year.

SYFY announced the series premiere for Wednesday, November 29 at 10/9c, as reported by CBR, with the show presumably continuing in that timeslot for the first season. The announcement came along with a short synopsis:

The series follows Nick Sax — an intoxicated, corrupt ex-cop turned hit man — who is adrift in a world of casual murder, soulless sex and betrayal. After a hit gone wrong, his inebriated life is forever changed by a tiny, relentlessly positive, imaginary blue winged horse named ‘Happy’.

Morrison, the creator of the comic, is co-writing alongside director Brian Taylor, with both also executive producing the series. In addition to Meloni and Oswalt, the cast includes Joseph Reitman, Patrick Fischler, Ritchie Coster and Zabryna Guevara.

The late premiere suggests a short first season, which isn't uncommon for new projects, but can occasionally be problematic if a series fails to find its fandom within the first few episodes. It also may be slotted into the mid-season break of a longer-running show with a premiere date this late in the year, although we won't know for sure until the network releases their full fall/winter TV schedule. The later time slot also suggests that this is going to be a particularly adult series, which is good news for fans of the book, as it means that the show won't be any less edgy than the source material.

Fans will be hoping that this premiere date bodes well for the series, bringing the adult nature and humor of the original to the small screen, and the big names attached will certainly help to drum up audience interest in the new show. It's certainly something a little different for TV comic adaptations, and could be just the right kind of black humor to binge over the holidays this year.
