Sweet Tooth hit Netflix, bringing the Jeff Lemire comic book story to life. The show picks up following a disease that destroyed much of the population at the same time that hybrid animal/human babies were born. The production hired an interesting cast of characters to play the survivors, hybrid children, and evil hunters wanting to eliminate the hybrids.

Many actors in Sweet Tooth have connections to similar geek properties. There are at least two who worked in shows with post-apocalyptic undertones. Several appeared in other comic book movies and series, including the young principal actor, who portrayed one of Marvel’s most interesting television heroes.

Will Forte - The Last Man On Earth

The first character fans meet in Sweet Tooth is Pubba, a man living off the grid in the wilderness with his hybrid son Gus. Will Forte plays Pubba, a man who trusts no one, wanting nothing more than to keep his son from harm. Forte is not a stranger to the post-apocalyptic television landscape, playing the lead character in Fox’s The Last Man on Earth, where he picked up Emmy nominations in 2015 and 2016.

Neil Sandilands - The Flash

General Abbot is one of the chief antagonists of Sweet Tooth, the leader of the Last Men, hunters who track and either kill or capture the hybrid children. Actor Neil Sandilands isn’t a newcomer for playing bad guys on television. He starred in Season 4 of The Flash as Clifford DeVoe — the villain known as Thinker. While Season 3 hinted at his arrival, he ended up as a main cast member of the fourth season.

James Brolin - Westworld (1973)

Many Sweet Tooth viewers will recognize the voice of the narrator. The man who helped deliver the feel of a fairy tale story is James Brolin. He is the father of Josh Brolin (Thanos, Cable) and the husband of Barbara Streisand. He was an early television star on shows like Marcus Welby, M.D. and Hotel, but his biggest claim to fame was in the 1973 movie Westworld. Brolin was John Blane, one of the main visitors to the amusement park, when the Gunslinger went on his rampage.

Nonso Anozie - Game Of Thrones

Actor Nonso Anozie has some familiar roles under his belt in movies like RocknRolla and Ender’s Game. However, television genre fans might remember him from Game of Thrones. He starred as Xaro Xhoan Daxos, a powerful merchant in Qarth in Season 2.

Adeel Akhtar - Enola Holmes

Adeel Akhtar as an investigator in Enola Holmes.

Adeel Akhtar took on a character from the Sweet Tooth comic books, but Netflix made major changes. In the comics, Dr. Singh’s first appearance had him dissecting hybrid children, seeking a cure to the disease that ravaged the world. In the Netflix series, he got a big backstory to help show he is a hero. Netflix fans just saw him last year in Enola Holmes, where he starred as the inspector investigating the case of the young missing Viscount Tewkesbury.

Adeel Akhtar - Utopia

Sweet Tooth took place after a disease destroyed the world when hybrids were born. This wasn’t Akhtar’s first role in a show with a disease as its focus. He played Wilson Wilson, a conspiracy theorist in the British version of Utopia. In this series, he was part of a group of people who found a manuscript that foreshadowed several events in the world. With the manuscript revealing an upcoming disease that would ravage the world, he and his friends went on the run from a mysterious organization that wanted to hide this from the world.

Dania Ramirez - Once Upon A Time

Fans on TV might recognize her from the rebooted seventh season of the popular ABC fantasy series Once Upon a Time. The show lost viewers in its last season because of losing major stars, but Ramirez was a highlight as one of the new cast members, portraying Cinderella.

Dania Ramirez - Heroes

Ramirez also starred in the NBC fantasy series Heroes. She showed up in Season 2 as Maya Herrera, a fugitive whose power is emitting a deadly poison. Law enforcement pursued her after she accidentally murdered everyone at her brother’s wedding, except for him with her uncontrollable power. Her brother is the only person who can stop his sister’s powers from getting out of control, and the two set out on the run together. She eventually joined up with Sylar, who believed he could help her control her powers.

Christian Convery - Legion

Christian Convery enjoyed a breakout performance in Sweet Tooth as Gus, the young hybrid who ends up as the hero of the story. At 11 years old, this wasn’t Christian’s first role in a geek-friendly property. Kids might recognize him from the Disney Channel series Pup Academy, but comic fans will remember him from Legion. On that Marvel television show, Christian starred as the young David Haller in flashback scenes.

Stefania LaVie Owen - Chance

When Gus and Tommy Jepperd were out running for their lives, they came across a young girl who made it her goal to save hybrid children. Named Bear, she ended up as one of the central characters of the Sweet Tooth. Actress Stefania LaVie Owen is 23 but played Bear as a teen. Before this, she got a big break starring as Hugh Laurie’s teenage daughter in the Hulu series Chance, appearing in both seasons of the series.
