Warning: Spoilers for Endless Winter #2 ahead!

Over the course of the epic crossover event known as Endless Winter, the heroes of DC Comics have done their best to battle an ancient evil calling himself the Frost King who has engulfed the world in a debilitating polar vortex of ice and snow. He will stop at nothing to see the destruction of those he thinks have done him wrong. Calling on every corner of the DC universe to help vanquish this newest threat, the Justice League, along with the avatar of The Green, Swamp Thing, dive headfirst into battle, ready for anything, as they enter the eye of the storm.

But one thing the Frost King might not have accounted for is the power that not only the Justice League wields, but what Swamp Thing is truly capable of. And in the finale to Endless Winter by Andy Lanning, Ron Marz, Carmine Di Giandomenico and Howard Porter, Swamp Thing shows off just how powerful he is by becoming a towering behemoth of kaiju-esque proportions.

Picking up after the Justice League finally pinpoint the location of the Frost King and decide to bring an all out assault to his doorstep, Endless Winter #2 is a finale that doesn’t hold back. The Frost King has plunged the world into sub-zero chaos that saw many heroes do their best to beat back the ice demons hidden within the magical blizzard and stay warm for one more day. The Frost King has acquired the means to not only become more powerful than ever (no thanks to Black Adam), but has also found the object of his desire: his long lost family, frozen in time in a block of ice.

Swamp Thing and Frost King kaiju fight

As the Frost King does his best to stop the heroes from foiling his world-changing plans, he unleashes a giant ice avatar in the spitting image of his frozen self to protect his flesh and blood body. Battling it out against Black Adam, Superman and even Wonder Woman’s mother and original Frost King adversary Hippolyta, the Frost King’s avatar seems to be getting the upper hand until a familiar plant-based warrior arrives on the scene to combat the icy threat head on.

Having used a portion of himself taken from his temporary home in The Other Place and using it to bond to another original Frost King challenger - the Viking Prince - as a sort of living, green armor, Swamp Thing enters the fray and immediately matches Frost King in terms of both raw strength and size. Holding nothing back as they beat on one another in grand kaiju fashion ripped straight out of a Godzilla movie, Swamp Thing and Frost King trade titanic blow after titanic blow as the rest of the Justice League follow through with their plan to defeat their enemy once and for all, a plan that they luckily succeed at.

With the final battle against the Frost King at long last over, Swamp Thing and the rest of the DC Comics heroes can finally breathe a collective sigh of relief after a job well done. It remains to be seen whether Swampy’s kaiju-level ability to become the size of a skyscraper will carry forward as an integral power of his that can be used on the regular, or if it’s just a one-off trick that can only be used in the most dire of circumstances. But one thing is for sure, and that’s that every person on the planet is going to be enjoying a nice cup of warm cocoa and a spot by the fireplace after this frigid battle.
