Most Survivor players only get one chance to play the game and win the million-dollar prize. However, Survivor: Second Chance featured a cast of twenty one-time players who never won, a popular season among fans. Some of the returning players had something to prove, while others sought redemption and revenge for past mistakes and betrayals.

Five years after the first Second Chance season, Survivor is due for a second edition, paving the way for some of the show's most notable one-time players to return. The male contestants who deserve a second chance have all proven their game acumen and would be welcome additions to a second chance type season.

Joe Mena (Heroes Vs. Healers Vs. Hustlers)

joe mena survivor

An aggressive player, Joe found hidden immunity idols and successfully played one of them to save himself. He also had a knack for irritating his tribemates, a strategy with the goal of being perceived as an easy person to beat in the end. Unfortunately, he found himself on the outs of the majority alliance at the merge and was targeted for being too big of a threat, finishing in eighth place.

In a return, Joe's reputation as an aggressive player could come back to haunt him, so it would be interesting to see him adopt a new strategy. He's also been known to rub contestants the wrong way, another thing that would need to change. Regardless, Joe is a fun player to watch and isn't afraid to make big moves, a worthy contender for a second chance.

Jay Starrett (Millennials Vs. Gen X)

Jay Starrett survivor

Jay had a charismatic personality that allowed him to forge strong relationships, while also being a dominant force in immunity challenges, making him a serious threat. During his first season, Jay found a hidden immunity idol and orchestrated Michaela's blindside. He made it all the way to the final six where he mistakenly played a fake idol made by David and was voted out.

In need of redemption, Jay is a perfect candidate for a second chance. He has proven to be a strong player and would most likely make it far into the game once again. However, he would have to lower his threat level in challenges and be less reliant on idols as he doesn't want to go out on a fake idol once again.

Dean Kowalski (Island Of The Idols)

Dean Kowalski survivor

Targeted early on in Island of the Idols, Dean found himself on the outs of the majority, but he managed to scrape by and make it to the merge. During the merge, he built new relationships and secret alliances, allowing him to make it to the final three. He had an impressive endgame by winning immunity challenges and successfully playing an idol nullifier, but he lost to Tommy in the final three, only garnering two jury votes.

After starting off in a poor position and emerging as a strong player, Dean would be a major threat in a second chance type of season. Sneaky and non-threatening, Dean is skilled at lowering his threat level and could find himself sitting in the final three with a viable chance to win.

Davie Rickenbacker (David Vs. Goliath)

Davie Rickenbacker survivor

A likable underdog, Davie spent the majority of the season on the bottom but managed to make it to the final six with his hidden immunity idol plays and strong social game. In the final twelve, Davie proved to be a major player when he played his idol on Christian, negating all of the Goliath's votes and sending John to the jury.

With a second chance, it would be interesting to see Davie use his social bonds to better his position and put him in the majority alliance. Plus, he knows how to play from the bottom, a skillset that other players lack. If he can make it to the final three, his likability and strong gameplay could easily net him the win.

Devon Pinto (Heroes Vs. Healers Vs. Hustlers)

Another non-threatening player, Devon was a social and strategic powerhouse, who orchestrated multiple blindsides and formed strong alliances throughout the game. Unfortunately, he fell victim to the final four fire-making challenge, a game-changing twist that cost him his chance of making it to the final three.

Throughout Heroes vs. Healers vs. Hustlers, Devon only had a single vote cast against him at the final five, an impressive feat for his first time. While he may find himself as a big target on a second go-around, Devon possesses the necessary skills and strategic finesse to outlast the other players and claim the million-dollar prize.

Shane Powers (Panama)

Shane Powers survivor

One of the more unpredictable and crazed players in Survivor history, Shane, a heavy smoker prior to going on the show, suffered from nicotine withdrawal, resulting in multiple outbursts and rants toward his tribemates. Regardless, he found himself in the majority alliance and a dominant player, but at the final five, his allies betrayed him and voted him out.

Originally on the ballot for Survivor: Second Chance, Shane was the most shocking omission from the cast. Deserving of another chance, it would be fascinating to see if Shane's volatile nature resurfaces and if he can adapt to the new school style of play. He would undoubtedly be one of the most entertaining castaways to see return.

Rick Devens (Edge Of Extinction)

Rick Devens survivor

A fan favorite from Edge of Extinction, Devens was the ultimate underdog who was voted out pre-merge but won re-entry into the game, making it all the way to the final four. Constantly targeted throughout the merge, Devens won multiple immunities and played several immunity idols, keeping him safe from elimination. He also helped orchestrate one of the most chaotic tribal councils in the show's history.

Unfortunately, Devens came just short of the final three as he lost the final four fire-making challenge after his ally, Chris, gave up immunity to take him out. While technically already receiving a second chance thanks to the Edge of Extinction, Devens is a worthy contender of a proper return who isn't afraid to play hard.

Christian Hubicki (David Vs. Goliath)

Christian Hubicki survivor

Another likable player from Survivor: David vs. Goliath, Christian used his savvy social game to win over many allies, helping him get to the merge. Unfortunately, he quickly became targeted at the merge due to his threat level but was able to survive all the way to the final seven thanks to immunity wins and hidden immunity idol plays.

If given a second chance, Christian could easily use his social game to make it far once again and would be a worthy winner of a returnee season. His only obstacle would be whether he can minimize his threat level or not, not an easy task to do as Christian learned the first time around.

Sean Rector (Marquesas)

Sean Rector survivor

An old school player from the fourth season of Survivor, Sean was a memorable player from Marquesas who had a close friendship with eventual winner, Vecepia, and a strong alliance with Boston Rob. During the season, Sean helped overthrow the dominant alliance by flipping members on the bottom. However, he was voted out at the final five.

Almost twenty years later, it's shocking that Sean has never returned to play another season of Survivor. Deserving of a second chance, Sean would be a welcome return and add a dose of old school mentality to the cast, which could prove to either be a hindrance or an advantage to his game.

Domenick Abbate (Ghost Island)

Domenick Abbate survivor

Domenick was so close to winning Survivor: Ghost Island. Having dominated the majority of the game with his ally, Wendell, he made it to the final three in one of the most surprising final tribals ever. The jury vote came back five votes for Domenick and five votes for Wendell, leaving third-place finisher, Laurel, to break the tie. Ultimately, Laurel voted for Wendell to win, causing Domenick to lose the game by one vote.

Domenick represents the epitome second chance returnee as he almost won the game and most likely would have had he cut Wendell earlier. In that regard, he's a strong contender for a return and his strategic dominance could help him get to the end again, hopefully with a better end result.
