With Survivor season 42 wrapping up on Wednesday, May 25, Survivor 43 will soon be following when it premieres this fall, and Jeff Probst believes these twists from this season will continue into the next. With season 43 being part of this "New Era" that Survivor is, many twists from seasons 41 and 42 will likely be making their return. Now, Jeff explains which twists fans will definitely see again next season and why.

One of the twists that were introduced in Survivor 41 and carried over into Survivor 42 was the Shot In The Dark twist. This twist allowed players to gamble their lives in the game if they were not feeling safe in their tribe. Shot In The Dark also allowed the players to drop a dice in a bucket for a chance at being safe; however, this would cost them their vote. So while it could potentially save someone from being voted off the island, there is also a huge risk in using this twist, and it can only be used up until the final seven (final six in Survivor 42), so if players are feeling unsafe at any point in the game, they should play their shot in the dark sooner rather than later. Due to seasons filming back-to-back, it is safe to say that this twist will be returning for Survivor 43 and future seasons to come.

According to Cinemablend, Jeff stated that the motivation for these new Survivor twists was to play around with the expectations that players have after watching Survivor for two decades. "The next group of players now has a bit of insight into this new version of Survivor. They're already thinking about when and how to best use a Shot In The Dark, or what they might do if they are presented with a risk/reward scenario? Or how do you keep an advantage a secret with a game design that is so public? We don't want everything to be a surprise. Instead, we're building a new foundation of game elements and leaving it to the players to figure out how best to play," stated Jeff. So while some fans may not like these new twists in the game, it gives viewers at home and potential players a chance to strategize about how they would use these twists and how it would affect their gameplay.

Despite this new era of Survivor, not everyone is a fan of these new twists or the after-show that replaced the live finale and reunion. It seems that fans will have to get used to this new era as it doesn't look like it will be ending anytime soon, with Jeff even saying that the winner reveal and after-show in Fiji is the new normal for Survivor. So while fans may miss the live winner reveal and reunion, it doesn't look like that aspect of the show will be making a return anytime soon, if at all.

Despite some of these twists receiving criticism from fans, Survivor has high hopes that the fans will jump on board for future seasons. Producers wanted to make the show new and exciting for contestants that are playing the game and like nothing they had seen before. With Survivor seasons filming back-to-back, it's safe to say that contestants from Survivor 44 won't know any of the twists that took place in Survivor 43, making the game more interesting for them. For now, viewers will have to wait until the fall for Survivor to return, they can watch all seasons streaming on Paramount+ until the new season starts airing.
