Bossa Studio’s PC version of Surgeon Simulator 2 is finally getting a Steam release after spending its first seven months as an Epic Games Store exclusive. Epic Games, creator of Fortnite and Unreal Engine, launched the Epic Games Store in December 2018 to compete in the PC gaming market. Initially hit with backlash from the gaming community, it quickly found a groove in the industry by signing temporary exclusivity deals with studios and offering up free games to its users every week.

Surgeon Simulator 2 was one of those titles, but on Tuesday, Bossa Studio put out a press release announcing that the wacky simulation game will release on Steam later in 2021. No official dates were given, but the Steam page is officially public, allowing fans to preemptively wish list the title. This stands to open the game up to a much wider audience, as Steam is still at the head of the PC gaming market.

Surgeon Simulator was originally a painfully hilarious indie game from 2013 that swiftly obtained a strong internet following. Along with Minecraft, it serves as one of the first games to truly develop a life of its own in the early days of gaming content on YouTube. With Surgeon Simulator 2, Bossa Studio tried to up the ante on the ridiculousness and features. The biggest addition to the series is multiplayer capabilities, a timely addition considering the rise in multiplayer gaming due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The game was even offered to NHS members for free in honor of their service during these chaotic times. While it won’t be free for everyone, Surgeon Simulator 2 will release on Steam soon.
