In the fall, the Supernatural world gets a new spinoff series, and the trailer has fans both excited and underwhelmed. When it comes to spinoff shows, lovers of the original series are often hard to please, as they want to see the show's legacy preserved and respected.

Supernatural is one of the most beloved CW shows, and fans hope that The Winchesters respects the story that Supernatural has built. The first trailer has started a lot of conversations about fans' hopes for the show, and they are both excited about some things and worried about others.

Reasons Supernatural Fans Are Excited For The Winchesters

Seeing Jensen Ackles As Dean Winchester Again

Jensen Ackles as Dean Winchester

Jensen Ackles is back as Dean Winchester, and fans could not be more ecstatic to see him after the 2020 finale of Supernatural. Even though The Winchesters trailer only shows Dean for a few seconds, fans have effectively freaked out, obsessively analyzing every frame with him in it, and listening to his voiceover repeatedly, scanning for clues.

Even though there are certain things that people don't like about the trailer, one sure-fire thing that they are excited about is the chance to finally see Dean Winchester again, no matter when the new show takes place. These events could happen while Dean is in heaven, or sometime during Supernatural's 15-season run.

Seeing Old Characters Again

Bobby Singer and Rufus Turner

People are especially excited about the possibility of seeing old Supernatural characters in The Winchesters. There are a lot of fun characters that could guest star in the new show, like Bobby Singer, Rufus Turner, Ellen and Bill Harvelle, Missouri Moseley, Samuel Campbell, and even Azazel, the demon who murdered Mary Winchester.

Fans hope that The Winchesters will explore both John and Mary's relationship with each other and their relationships with other hunters, especially those who have been previously introduced in Supernatural. Only time will tell if these characters will be featured in the new show, but hopes are high in the Supernatural fandom.

John And Mary's Hunting Origins Explained

John and Mary in Supernatural

John and Mary Winchester's history and hunting origins are quite complex, especially with the release of the new trailer. Their relationship history and personal, individual pasts have always been complicated, especially in Supernatural.

How they both started hunting has always been confusing, and it has only gotten more complicated with The Winchesters, as their hunting origins have been changed. Fans are interested and excited to witness the two of them begin hunting and begin hunting together.

Getting To Know John and Mary As Characters

Sam and Dean have never known the truth about their parents, and now that Dean is embarking on a journey to learn more about them, fans are excited for the opportunity to join him. On Supernatural, John and Mary are usually only portrayed as Sam and Dean's parents instead of their own characters and people with separate pasts and experiences.

In The Winchesters, the focus is on John and Mary, and this time, their story is being told. It will be interesting to see what kind of people they are before they become parents.

Jensen Ackles Is Very Involved

Jensen and Danneel Ackles

Even though some fans are skeptical of The Winchesters, others are excited and hopeful for the show because Jensen Ackles himself is heavily involved. Ackles and his wife, Danneel, launched Chaos Machine Productions in 2020, and the first project they started was this one.

Ackles is the perfect person to take over telling the story of Supernatural, and those who are skeptical place their hope in him, trusting him to respect the show's legacy. It's certainly comforting to know that someone who loves the show is in charge of creating a spinoff.

Reasons Supernatural Fans Are Not Excited For The Winchesters

Jared Padalecki Isn't In It

Jared Padalecki as Sam Winchester

Unfortunately for Supernatural fans, it doesn't seem like they'll be seeing Sam Winchester anytime soon. Fans were dismayed when the trailer did not feature Sam alongside Dean, with most saying that seeing Dean in the Impala alone was jarring and unsettling, as the two are rarely apart in Supernatural.

As far as we know, Jared Padalecki is not involved in The Winchesters at all. Jensen Ackles is heavily involved in the series, but Padalecki is extremely busy starring in the CW's Walker and he is also working on a prequel to that show. Chances are, Padalecki will not be reprising his role as Sam Winchester in The Winchesters, but who knows?

Misha Collins Isn't In It

Misha Collins as Castiel in Supernatural

Misha Collins's Castiel is undoubtedly one of the most beloved Supernatural characters. Making his debut in Season 5, Castiel serves as Sam and Dean's guardian angel, partner, accomplice, and friend. In fact, fans have shipped Castiel and Dean for a long time.

Unfortunately for Castiel fans, it doesn't seem like he will be appearing in The Winchesters. The timeline would be complicated, and it is unknown what kind of role he would play in John and Mary's stories. That being said, fans would love to see Castiel again, but it will probably not happen.

There Are Lots Of Continuity Errors

John and Mary Winchester embrace in Supernatural

One of the biggest complaints people already have about The Winchesters is the fact that it already seems to have a lot of continuity errors. The trailer just came out, and it already contradicts a lot of things about John and Mary previously explored and seen in Supernatural.

The Winchesters has already changed how John and Mary met from the original Supernatural story, John's hunting background, and Mary's hunting background. There seem to be a lot of continuity errors prevalent already, and from a fan's perspective, that is very concerning.

It Looks Like A Teen Romance Show

John and Mary Winchester in The Winchesters

Since Supernatural premiered in 2005, a lot of diehard fans are much older than the intended target audience for The Winchesters. The CW is a bonafide teen network, and the only reason why Supernatural escaped that reputation is that it was originally a Warner Brothers production.

The Winchesters already looks like a Riverdale-esque teen drama, and that's unappealing to a lot of Supernatural fans who don't necessarily want to watch an overly dramatic, mushy show about two teenagers in love. The main purpose of the show is to draw in new viewers, not necessarily to please old fans.

Fans Would Rather Hear Other Supernatural Stories

Dean and Sam Winchester in Supernatural

Nobody ever asked for a show about John and Mary Winchester. These characters are not widely loved by Supernatural fans, as they honestly aren't great parents. There are so many other characters that fans would much rather get a show about, but it doesn't seem like that's going to happen anytime soon.

Supernatural has introduced a lot of interesting, complex, and beautiful characters who could star in their own spinoff shows. In fact, Sheriff Jody Mills and all her adopted daughters were initially supposed to receive their own show, Wayward Sisters, but it ended up getting canceled because the CW thought people wouldn't watch it. There are a lot of other characters that fans would love to learn more about, but John and Mary aren't necessarily on that list.
