While it was fun seeing the Winchester's bounce from tacky hotel to tacky hotel on Supernatural, it was nice to finally see them have a home in the bunker in season 8. When most people think of a bunker, they conjure up images of a dark, damp hidden hole underground that is filled with astronaut food and cans.

But the Winchesters' bunker is not like just any ordinary bunker. It's elaborate, stylish, and spacious. The bunker is filled with wards against every supernatural creature, books on every folklore imaginable, Men of Letter secrets, and beer, but there's more to it than just that. Here are 10 hidden details about the Winchester bunker:

There's a Possibility for a Secret Passageways

The Winchesters' bunker has everything it needs to in order to be a top secret hideout, except secret passageways. Who doesn't love a bookshelf that is secretly a doorway?  And what a better place for it than a bunker where supernatural hunters live.

Even though Sam and Dean have never discovered a secret passageway, the set was designed to be able to include one. When the set for the bunker was built, they included extra space behind some of the bookshelves just in case a hidden tunnel was ever written into the script. Maybe season 15 will be the season where the brothers discover the bunker has been concealing a passageway all along.

The Map on the Wall isn't just of the United States

Many fans have noticed the map of the United States that is hanging up in the bunker's command center without paying too much attention to it. But if one looks closely and connects the dots, they will discover that each city the Winchester brothers have visited during the course of Supernatural is marked on the map.

The set designers realize there is no way the Men of Letters would have been able to have this information, but the set creators still added it in for the fans and for the writers. Long time fans have watched Sam and Dean endlessly drive back and forth across the country in their never-ending road trip. It's hard to keep track of where they have been after awhile, so luckily there's a handy-dandy map that shows all of this information.

The Winchesters' Initials Are Carved Into The Table

Even though many fans would believe the Winchesters will have the most incredible legacy to leave behind, the brothers themselves have questioned this. In season 12, episode 18 "The Memory Remains" Sam and Dean wondered what their legacy would be and what would become of the bunker once they were gone.

As they sat at a table in the library, Dean pulls out his knife and the two world-saving brothers carve their initials into the table so neither them or their time at the bunker will ever be forgotten. Nor will Mary as her initials on the table show up in season 14. A family that hunts together, carves their initials into tables together.

Not All of the Books are Real

The bunker's library is every bookworms' idea of Heaven with its many shelves lined with every book imaginable from spells, to religion, to folklore. Many fans can only dream of having a library as elaborate as the one in the bunker. But there is something these bookworm fans need to know and that is not every book in the library is real.

This might be good news though as fans who are unable to spend money on so many books can create the look for much cheaper by using basic materials such as cardboard, some old book spines or paper, and every hunter's preferred weapon for crafting, glue.

The Telescope is Based on a Real Telescope

Every secret bunker needs an immaculate telescope even if they never use it. The Winchesters have not touched the telescope since they moved in which was about seven years ago. Who cleans that massive thing? But, nonetheless, they do have it.

The bunker's telescope may not be completely real as it was created for the set, but it is based off of a real telescope. It's designed after a telescope from the 1950's and if the Men of Letters were destroyed in 1958, this would mean that the telescope is fitting with the time period. Unfortunately, the Men of Letters didn't get much time with their grand telescope. Who knows what mysteries they could have solved with it.

The Placement for the Dungeon is an Odd Choice

Another thing every lavish hideout needs is a dungeon, some dark spooky chamber in the very bottom that you have to take winding stairs to get to. While the bunker has a dungeon, it's a bit of an unconventional one and in an odd place.

The bunker's dungeon is tucked behind shelves of Men of Letters' archives with two of the shelves acting as the doorway into the dungeon. This doesn't seem like the greatest idea to keep prisoners so close to the Men of Letters' archives, what if there's something the prisoner could use in one of those boxes? It seems like the garage has more defense than the dungeon does.

There are at Least 32 Rooms

The bunker is obviously a huge building with it's giant garage, elaborate library, and vaulted ceilings. But just how big is it? There are at least 32 rooms in the Men of Letters' bunker as fans have seen several rooms being used and all the doors have the room numbers on them.

Room 11 is Dean's room, room 21 is Sam's, room 28 is a storage room and also where the computer that locks down the bunker is located, and room 32 is where they housed Gabriel when he was recovering in season 13. When fans first started watching Supernatural, Sam and Dean were forced to go from one awful hotel to the next and now they're living in a 32 room mansion. Not a bad step up for the brothers.

Recycled Staircase

Everything about the bunker is immaculate right down to the staircase. And you know who else has immaculate taste? That's right, it's Crowley. Crowley is quite the tasteful demon. In season 7 when he had his own torture chamber, he made sure it looked exquisite right down to the staircase.

The staircase used in the bunker, use to belong to Crowley, and one demon's trash is another secret society's treasure. When Crowley's torture chamber was no longer being used, the set crew decided to recycle the staircase instead of scrapping it. No wonder, Crowley has a bit of an attitude towards the Winchesters, they stole his staircase.

The Infirmary Sits Directly Behind the Staircase

It can be hard to map out the bunker in one's head with its many rooms and hiding areas. It constantly seems the Winchesters and Castiel are walking down long hallways with no end in sight. How do they not get lost? While there is not a full version of the bunker's blueprints, there is a simplified one.

This simplified version shows that the infirmary sits directly behind the staircase with the giant glass wall and hallway separating them. In order to get to the infirmary, one would have to walk down the long hallway past the kitchen and stop before they reached the dungeon. How fun would it be to play hide and seek here?

The Dungeon's Devil Trap was also Bobby's

Even though the original Bobby passed away when he was shot in the head by Dick Roman, the Leviathans' leader, a part of him will always be with the show as his devil's trap is now the dungeon's devil's trap.

The devil's trap in the bunker's dungeon was originally used in Bobby's panic room. The bunker of supernatural hunters obviously needs a devil's trap and what a better one to use than the trap of one of the best hunters. Why throw out a perfectly good devil's trap when you could pass it along to a friend instead?
