Where are all 4 of Supernatural's archangels and their Apocalypse World parallels as the series heads into its final season? Archangels were introduced to the Supernatural mythology as early as season 4, as the Winchester brothers desperately tried to avoid the unleashing of Lucifer and Dean's body being possessed by Michael. Since those far more innocent times, Supernatural's 4 archangels have been a constant thorn in the side of Sam and Dean, although one member of the fab four would eventually prove to be a valuable ally.

Lucifer, Michael, Gabriel and Raphael represent a key pillar in the Supernatural narrative, but thanks to surprise returns, resurrections and the reveal of the parallel Apocalypse World, it's become tricky to keep track of the angelic quartet. With Supernatural season 15 now imminent, it's virtually guaranteed that at least one archangel will appear, and with God lurking, possibly even the whole set.

Lucifer

Mark Pellegrino as Lucifer Nick in Supernatural

Simultaneously the most popular and the most troublesome of Supernatural's archangels, Lucifer was killed by Dean (possessed by Apocalypse Michael) in the season 13 finale. Despite this, Mark Pellegrino's devilish return has already been teased, with Lucifer's vessel Nick coming dangerously close to resurrecting his old spiritual tenant in Supernatural season 14. Consequently, Lucifer is currently in The Empty, the place angels rest after death, but is awake and almost certain to appear somehow in Supernatural's final season.

Since the Apocalypse World is a representation of what would've happened if Michael had beaten Lucifer in Supernatural season 5, and Sam and Dean had failed to stop Heaven's designs to bring about the end of the world via an almighty archangel battle, Apocalypse Lucifer is long dead.

Michael

Spurned by Dean, the prime universe's Michael settled on possessing the third Winchester brother, Adam. Along with his vessel, Michael fell into the Cage in the finale of Supernatural season 5 and hasn't been seen since. Several throwaway lines of dialogue from Lucifer and God have revealed that Michael is currently alive, but in a deeply damaged mental state due to years of imprisonment in the darkest depths of Hell. Finally, Adam is set to return in Supernatural's final season, and he'll likely be bringing his inner archangel with him.

The Apocalypse World's version of Michael acted as the lead antagonist for Supernatural's fourteenth season. Having already traversed worlds and possessed Dean, the alternate archangel began powering-up Earth's monsters with his grace and ultimately sought to destroy the entire universe. Michael was dramatically defeated by the nephilim (and Lucifer's son) Jack, who burned through his own human soul in order to take out the archangel that was threatening his surrogate family.

Gabriel

Richard Speight Jr. as Gabriel in Supernatural

Gabriel is distinctly unlikely his fellow brothers, and the only one who the Winchesters truly come to count as an ally. Initially posing as the Trickster, Gabriel delighted in creating all manner of wacky illusions to torment Sam and Dean for his own amusement and took full advantage of all the trappings Earth had to offer. Gabriel eventually decided to stop the games and help the Winchesters save the world, however, he appeared to die at the hands of Lucifer in Supernatural season 5. Up to his old tricks, Gabriel had deceived Lucifer and managed to survive the attack, only to be killed properly by Apocalypse Michael in season 13. While another shock return for Gabriel isn't impossible, it may feel cheap to pull the same trick twice, and Gabriel will likely stay asleep in the Empty.

Gabriel's fate in the Apocalypse World remains unconfirmed. Without the influence of the Winchesters, it's likely that the playful archangel never found the resolve to fight back against his dysfunctional family and steered clear of his brothers' battle to the death.

Raphael

Demore Barnes as Raphael and Misha Collins as Castiel in Supernatural

The least prominent archangel in Supernatural's history, Raphael acted as a supporting antagonist between seasons 4 and 6, constantly sparring, but never seriously coming to blows with, the Winchester brothers. In Supernatural season 6, Raphael entered a heavenly war with Castiel over triggering the apocalypse, and Castiel finally managed to kill the archangel by powering himself up with the assembled souls of purgatory. Nothing has been heard of Raphael since, meaning his demise is likely going to stick.

The fate of Raphael's Apocalypse World counterpart has not yet been mentioned. There's little doubt that he would've been loyal to Michael, but the distinct lack of Raphael in the Apocalypse World's angelic forces implies he must've been killed in battle at some point, otherwise he'd surely be a more prominent figure.
