Supernatural's season 15 finale was forced to delay production due to the Coronavirus outbreak, but the move could present positive opportunities. One of the longest-running drama series in history, Supernatural has seen its lead characters Sam and Dean Winchester encounter just about every possible dramatic scenario. They've both died multiple times, and they've also both spent the equivalent of thousands of years being tortured in Hell. They've saved countless lives, but their mistakes have also led to the deaths of people they love.

Sam and Dean have visited alternate dimensions, and been given glimpses of how they might've turned out as people had they not ended up hunting monsters. The brothers have prevented multiple apocalypses, done multiple battles with Lucifer, and even ended up waging war against God himself. With consistent ratings and an enormous legion of devoted fans, there was a time when it seemed like Supernatural would never end. But every TV show must eventually reach its conclusion, and so will Supernatural soon.

However, that end won't come as soon as fans originally expected, as Supernatural season 15 was one of the many shows forced to stop production prior to completion thanks to the Coronavirus pandemic. While that's surely disappointing for some, the delay could have a bright side, and might well be a blessing in disguise.

Why Supernatural's Delayed Finale Could Be a Blessing in Disguise

Supernatural Season 15 Sam Dean Hell

While not everyone has been happy with season 15 - no surprise in a world where many fans wish Supernatural had ended in what they consider to be its prime - there's no arguing that the scope has been epic. In God, Sam and Dean are facing off against easily their most powerful foe to date, a foe who took it upon himself to enlist other past foes against the Winchesters. There's also been multiple major character deaths, and also multiple notable resurrections. Now though, fans will have to wait until fall 2020, at the earliest, to see how Supernatural's story ends. However, that's not necessarily a bad thing.

For one, the fact that Supernatural season 15 ended with seven episodes still left to finish effectively extends the show into a "bonus" season. Seven episodes isn't that short by the standards of most cable or streaming shows, and in a way, Supernatural season 16 is now on the menu. The hardcore fans dismayed by the thought of Supernatural exiting their lives will now likely not have to say goodbye until late 2020 or early 2021. Additionally, since the series finale hasn't been shot yet, Supernatural's writers and producers now have multiple extra months to tweak and improve the script, possibly even incorporating fan feedback toward the episodes already aired in season 15. That kind of extra time just doesn't come during the fast-paced schedule of the active TV season, as episode scripts are often finished in a single week. One assumes the final episode got more prep time than that already, but more freedom is always a good thing.
