Once again, Supernatural fan favorite Ben Edlund delivers an episode so wonderful, so entertaining and so hilarious that I officially declare “The French Mistake” the best episode ever of Supernatural!
Whether you’re laughing at the inside jokes, staring intently trying to find every single nod and wink to the fans or wondering exactly where the line between fiction and reality exists, “The French Mistake” will keep any fan of Supernatural entertained throughout.
With appearances from J2’s real bodyguard Cliff, showrunner Sera Gamble and many other fan favorites, this episode clearly defines Supernatural as a series that goes above and beyond what is required for a television show.
While this series could simply sit back, relax and present viewers with a weekly dose of monster hunting, Supernatural understands their fanbase more than any other series on the air. Not only that, but they’re one of the few series to take on their boisterous fandom wholeheartedly.
If this were any other television series, the inclusion of the two stars real-life bodyguard would go unnoticed – not with Supernatural fans. Cliff has not only become a fan favorite in his own right, but you’ll often see fans ask to take his photo, as well as J2’s.
Even though this episode barely touches on this season’s storyline, it’s too entertaining to not love everything about it. From the always Tweeting Misha, to poking fun at Robert Singer’s “dick move” of naming a character after himself… this episode has it all! In fact, I’m sure many fans will find themselves watching it more than once to make sure they didn’t miss anything.
Well, guess what? You did!
“The French Mistake” Episode Description:
Raphael (guest star Lanette Ware) launches an attack on Castiel (Misha Collins) and his allies, sending a particularly frightening angelic hitman (guest star Carlos Sanz) after Balthazar (guest star Sebastian Roche), Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles). In an effort to protect the brothers, Balthazar sends them to an alternate universe where they are the stars of a TV show called “Supernatural” and they are actors named “Jensen Ackles” and “Jared Padalecki.” The brothers are confused when Castiel appears to be a tweet-happy actor named Misha Collins and Sam is married to Ruby (Genevieve Cortese). Charles Beeson directed the episode written by Ben Edlund.
