The CW’s Supernatural felt different compared to other fantasy shows like Buffy or Charmed due to it being more gritty and focused on action when the time called for it. With Sam and Dean positioned as hunters who go up against monsters and other beings, we’ve had many awesome fight scenes on the show.

Now that we know that the series will be ending in a few months, it’s worth a visit back to the fight scenes that not only looked cool, but also hit us in our feels at times. With this in mind, here are 10 of the hardest-hitting fight scenes we’ve had so far in Supernatural.

Dean Finishes Lucifer

The fighting here was more comedic than cool, as it was painfully obvious the actors were hung up on strings to put together the illusion that they were fighting. However, the fact that the Devil was finally put down after about a decade’s worth of torment makes this battle significant.

It started off with Dean showing off the power Michael brought with him by proving strong enough to fling Lucifer around, but things took a turn in favor of the Devil in the air due to him having the powers of Jack. Eventually, it was due to Sam tossing Dean the archangel blade that Dean managed to kill Lucifer.

Mind Controlled Sam And Dean Fight

The brothers were facing big problems with each other personally by this point, so there was more than them being mind-controlled when they locked horns. Here, Sam and Dean were put under the influence of a siren, who then made them fight to the death.

Sam initially had the upper hand over Dean due to superior punching skills, but he had no answer to Dean’s killer-like style of fighting as the latter hurled himself onto Sam, causing him to go through a door and lose the fight. Dean would’ve killed Sam with an axe had it not been for Bobby’s intervention.

Castiel And Dean Versus Gog And Magog

Dean displayed here best how he had inherited the fighting skills taught to him by his father when he was able to take down the famed Gog and Magog. While Castiel did his best to fight, his lack of skills meant the equally strong opponents were able to beat him.

This was where Dean came into play as his quickness and agility allowed him to counter the stronger opponents by evading their attacks and enabled him to hit their vital points, putting them in the position for Dean to use their ancient weapons and kill both Gog and Magog.

Dean, Castiel, And Benny Against Purgatory Monsters

Dean fights his way through Purgatory in Supernatural

All of the Purgatory scenes in Season 8 were a treat to watch, as this trio managed to survive this realm for a year by teaming together on a daily basis against all kinds of monsters. All of them also brought different styles to the table.

Dean made use of a combination of speed and tactics with weaponry, while Benny used his smarts to launch a proper ambush. Meanwhile, Castiel’s status as an angel meant we saw some gorgeous smiting scenes doled out by him.

Lucifer Stomps Dean, Castiel, And Sam

You know what’s better than an all-out fight scene? An all-out fight scene involving the Devil dancing along to a song while he dominates his opponents. Here, Lucifer toyed with the main trio while they were locked with him in the cage.

Still, Castiel, Dean, and Sam’s efforts were admirable, as the three never let up and attacked Lucifer individually and together. Their attacks might even have worked, as they had Lucifer in their hold on a couple of occasions, but the Devil’s incredible strength meant he had all three beat by the end.

Dean Puts Down Cain

This was surprisingly a tragedy mixed with a fight scene, as Cain’s demise turned out to be deeper than any other demon’s. Here, Dean attempted to avoid a fatal confrontation, but Cain’s command of his powers meant he had Dean beaten using telekinesis.

This prompted Dean to use his smarts as he brought himself in close proximity to Cain, in order to use an angel blade to slice off the latter’s hand. The sad part came when Dean realized the Mark of Cain had corrupted its bearer without hope of redemption, and he reluctantly used the First Blade to kill the Knight of Hell.

Mark Of Cain Dean Versus Evil Charlie

This was a fight that was particularly hard to watch as the violence-obsessed Dean found it difficult to hold his rage back when attacked by the evil version of Charlie. The downside here was that every blow Dean brought meant the good version of Charlie was also wounded.

The fight had an initially intriguing turn as the evil Charlie turned out to be something of a fighter by matching Dean’s skills and forcing him to go all-out. To this end, Dean unleashed his anger and brought a flurry of punches that beat the evil Charlie to submission.

Castiel And Dean Trade Wins

These were two separate fight scenes across about five years; both of them had similar styles, although different victors. In Season 5, Castiel found Dean in an alley about to say yes to Michael, and proceeded to unleash a vicious assault that left Dean a bloody mess.

Later, in Season 10, it was Dean’s turn to return the favor as he reached his breaking point with the Mark of Cain and gave Castiel no opening to defend himself by launching an assault that comprised of what seemed like fifty punches. Castiel might even have died, as Dean came inches close to stabbing him with an angel blade.

Alastair's Demise

This was a contest featuring the three leads against Alastair at different points, with the demon easily winning the first, putting up an effort to win the second, and being completely outmatched in the third.

The first involved Alastair beating down Dean with his demon powers, before he was interrupted by Castiel. The two traded barbs, until Alastair improvised and impaled Castiel to the wall. However, Sam’s intervention brought proceedings to a close as his powers were so hilariously superior to Alastair that he was able to kill the demon within a few seconds.

Demon Blood Sam Beats Down Dean

The coolest and the saddest fight scene was the one we got by the end of Season 4, as Sam gave in to his demon powers and took his anger out on Dean. As it happened, Dean called Sam a monster, motivating the latter to hit him a brutal punch.

Dean was able to put up a good fight himself, as he countered Sam’s moves by making use of his punches and kicks, but Sam proved to be too strong as he crashed Dean against a mirror, pulverized him with his punches, and then slammed him through a table. It seemed as if Sam would throttle Dean to death the next moment, but he decided against it at the last second, although their relationship was definitely shattered by then.
