Supernatural season 8 episode 7 sees Castiel escape from Purgatory - somehow. Supernatural is currently in its fifteenth and final season, and it's evolved from an X-Files-inspired horror show to something that became beloved in its own right. It centers on Winchester brothers Dean (Jensen Ackles) and Sam (Jared Padalecki) as they battle supernatural creatures and demons. Their adventures have quite literally brought them to Hell and back over the years.

Supernatural is sure to end its fifteen season run in epic style and over the years it introduced other fan-favorite characters like Castiel, Bobby Singer, and even villain Crowley. It also spawned a spinoff with Supernatural: The Anime Series, which ran for one season; scheduling issues meant Jensen Ackles was only available to voice Dean for two episodes out of 21. Despite the show's popularity, attempts at spinoffs like Supernatural: Bloodlines never came together, since it was hard to replicate the chemistry between the two leads.

Supernatural season 8 episode 7 "A Little Slice Of Kevin" was certainly an eventful outing, which sees the return of everybody's favorite angel Castiel (Misha Collins). Season 8 opened with Dean having escaped Purgatory with his vampire buddy Benny, but Castiel was left behind. "A Little Slice Of Kevin" opens with Dean spotting what looks like a disheveled Cass on the road, who later vanishes. He thinks he keeps seeing him until Cass finally reappears to both Sam and Dean.

Castiel isn't back to his full power following his Purgatory exit and has no memory of exactly how he escaped. This makes Dean both suspicious and guilty since he feels like a failure that he couldn't save Cass during his escape. Elsewhere, Crowley is having potential prophets kidnapped to translate a God tablet, while actual prophet Kevin and his mother Linda are trying to make demon-killing bombs. They enlist a witches' help, who quickly sells them out to Crowley; he takes Kevin away while his mother bests a demon sent to kill her with a super soaker filled with holy water.

Supernatural season 8 episode 7's big finale has Dean, Sam and Castiel head to Crowley's hideout to save Kevin. The latter was convinced to talk after Crowley exploded a would-be prophet and kill off one of his fingers. Kevin then translates the tablet while the gang takes down several demons. A weakened Cass confronts Crowley, and is able to summon enough heavenly light to scare him off; Cass also smashes half the God tablet before Crowley disappears.

Supernatural season 8 episode 7 ends with Kevin and his mother rescued, while Castiel and Dean have a heart to heart. It turns out Dean has been misremembering his escape. When he was trying to pull Cass out, his grip didn't slip - Cass pushed him through. He wanted to stay in Purgatory to atone for his many mistakes. When Sam returns, Cass flashes to a pure white, office-like space in Heaven. A woman named Naomi (Amanda Tapping, Stargate SG-1) talks to him, explaining he was rescued from Purgatory so he could keep tabs on the Winchesters. Naturally, Cass doesn't want to follow along, but she reveals he has no choice and won't even remember their chats. True to her word, she snaps him back to Sam and Dean and they continue talking with no one the wiser.
