Sci-fi staple Felicia Day will be stopping by the CW’s hit thriller Supernatural in an upcoming episode, amusingly titled "The Girl With the Dungeons and Dragons Tattoo."
The April 27 episode will feature Day as a low-level tech at one of Dick Roman’s (the season's primary antagonist) companies whose amateur computer hacking gets her some face time with the Winchester brothers.
When asked about Day’s appearance, executive producer Sera Gamble teased "[She] unwittingly gets wrapped up in Sam and Dean’s problems... It’s a classic story of an everyday girl who does not want to be in a whistleblower position."
As a fan-fave, Felicia Day is kind of a geek TV nomad, popping in and out of various sci-fi shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Dollhouse and Eureka, the latter of which will meet its end after its upcoming fifth season--where she usually tends to play the cute, naïve, slightly ditsy girl. Although Day’s character is described in this episode as someone "unwittingly" getting involved – Supernatural has a way of turning the tables on its viewers at the last minute (for better or for worse).
While most of her TV roles have been limited to guest spots, Day has built herself a strong cult following with her web series. Day currently divides her multi-talented skills as creator, writer and producer, of fantasy web show The Guild in which she also stars as Cyd Sherman and her alter ego Codex. Outside of her work on The Guild (which is expected to go into its sixth season) Day is quickly recognized to web fans as Penny on Joss Whedon’s Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog, also staring Neil Patrick Harris.
Following the events of the last act of Dr. Horrible's first season, it's not yet known if Day will make a return to the musical dramedy when the web show begins filming of its second season this summer.
There is no question Felicia Day has her fair-sized loyal geek fan base – so while her Supernatural debut as a Leviathan whistleblower may not be anything to throw a parade over, Day is still expected to add her own quirky unique sense of comedy to the character and will fit right in.
The seventh season of Supernatural has been met with mixed reviews from both critics and fans, so the addition of Day for an episode or even the much anticipated return of Mischa Collins earlier in the midseason will probably not do much to mollify disappointed fans, especially with the reality of a ninth season still being up in the air.
Catch Felicia Day's guest spot on Supernatural Friday April 27 @ 9 on the CW.
