When will Supernatural resume after season 15 was put on hold due to the coronavirus pandemic? The adventures of Sam and Dean Winchester have reached their final chapter after 15 years spent saving from world from all manner of divine and fantastical threats. Supernatural season 15 picked up from the shocking finale of season 14, where Chuck (the God of Supernatural) was revealed to be the villainous puppeteer behind the brothers' pain and suffering. Teaming up with Death, the son of Satan, and all of the allies they haven't already got killed, the Winchesters have been touted as the messengers of God's destruction.

The CW has so far aired 13 of Supernatural season 15's confirmed 20-episode duration, the most recent of which being March 23rd's "Destiny's Child." Due to the worldwide coronavirus pandemic, Warner Bros. Television had already announced its temporary closure several weeks prior to this date, and Supernatural showrunner, Andrew Dabb, confirmed that "Destiny's Child" would be the final episode "for a while" as a result of the current crisis. This leaves the unanswered question of when Supernatural's final season will resume.

Firstly, it's vital to stress that there is currently no firm date set for Hollywood to kick back into gear - that entirely depends on how the virus progresses over the coming weeks and months. However, Dabb also revealed that while 18 episodes of Supernatural season 15 have completed production, the unaired material is still awaiting post-production work. This leaves 5 episodes almost finished and the final 2 yet to be filmed. Dabb has assured Supernatural fans that both the crew and The CW plan to complete season 15 as originally intended.

Although no time frame is in place for Supernatural's return, some might look towards other The CW properties for a rough guideline. The Arrowverse shows (The Flash, Batwoman, Legends of Tomorrow, etc.) were also hit by coronavirus delays, but new episodes were recently announced to air later this month. However, these episodes were already completed and in the can before production was halted; the delay was merely to eke out shows with episodes still to film, such as The Flash. The situation is very different for Supernatural, which seemingly has no remaining episodes completed and ready to roll, considering Dabb's comments regarding unfinished post-production. Unfortunately, this means that Supernatural is unlikely to air while the coronavirus shutdown continues. Optimistic projections suggest production might be able to restart in Summer 2020, which could potentially allow Supernatural season 15 to resume in the Fall, but this is entirely dependent on real-world events.

Naturally, this will lead to a disjointed ending for Supernatural, but the situation is out of The CW's control, and extends far beyond the entertainment industry. With only 2 episodes left to film (the series finale), it's unlikely that The CW will ditch any of the already-filmed material to shorten the season, but it'll be a few months at least before those episodes see the light of day. Supernatural season 15 will be fortunate if it wraps up before Christmas.
