Supernatural has been on our screens for an incredible fifteen years and over that time a lot of sweet, wild, and heartbreaking things have happened on the show. From trapping Lucifer to killing the actual Death, the show has taken fans through a range of memorable moments.

As fans eagerly await the rest of the final season, which has been on pause, for the time being, it is worth going back in time and looking at some of the interesting things from the show's first season that most of us probably forgot about.

The "Christo" Demon

Supernatural has had a lot of demons, and some like Crowley even became a friend to the Winchesters. However, the first demon to appear on the show was noticeably different.

Appearing in the episode "Phantom Traveler," instead of having a thick solid black smoke, this demon had an insect-like swarm inside of it. Most importantly, the brothers were able to detect the demon using the word "Christo" and weirdly, that trick would never be used by the brothers again.

A Shapeshifter Took On Dean's Form

As fans of the show know, Jensen Ackles, unlike Jared Padalecki, rarely plays another character other than Dean Winchester.

Yet, in the episode "Skin" fans got to see a murderous shapeshifter take on the form of Dean Winchester. Easily one of the more terrifying moments in the season, the shapeshifter was able to perfectly mimic Dean and was even able to fool Sam for a little while.

The Other Meg

Today, most fans know the demon Meg Masters as portrayed by Rachel Miner. However, most fans may have forgotten that the first time they saw Meg, she looked a lot different. Portrayed by Nicki Aycox, Meg first appeared in the show as a harmless hitchhiker in the episode, "Scarecrow."

However, Meg turned out to be working with the demon Azazel and Dean was forced to exorcise Meg from her vessel, which sadly meant that her vessel died. Luckily, Nicki Aycox reprised her role as the ghost of Meg in the season four episode "Are You There, God? It's Me, Dean Winchester."

Alden Ehrenreich And Cory Monteith

Over the years, Supernatural has had a lot of guest stars and in season one, the show had two actors who would go on to become pretty famous. Alden Ehrenreich who became best known for his role as Han Solo in Solo: A Star Wars Story, and the sadly departed Glee star Cory Monteith both appeared in the episode, "Wendigo."

Ehrenreich played the role of Ben Collins, who, along with his sister, was looking for his missing brother Tommy, while Monteith had a small role as one of Tommy's camping friends, Gary.

Cassie Robinson

Long before the show had the Angel of the Lord Castiel, it had Cassie Robinson. Appearing in the episode "Route 666" which told the story of a racist possessed truck, Cassie appeared as one of Dean's former girlfriends.

Surprisingly, it was revealed that the womanizing Dean Winchester used to be in a long term relationship with her but they broke up after Dean told her the truth about his life. Although they resolved their issues by the end of the episode, Cassie was sadly never seen again.

The Benders

One of the most notable things about Supernatural's first season is that it was actually kind of scary and one episode that definitely had fans on edge was the episode, "The Benders."

What really made this episode so terrifying was that the "monsters" weren't supernatural at all, instead, it was a family of humans who had been hunting people for generations. Truly chilling, it is no wonder that Dean said, "I'll say it again - Demons I get; people are crazy."

Dean Nearly Died For The First Time

If there is one thing that even people who don't watch Supernatural know, it is that the characters seemingly die a lot. Therefore, it is not surprising that Dean had his first brush with death in the season one episode "Faith."

After Dean was accidentally electrocuted, he had a heart attack. Thankfully, Sam tracked down a mysterious faith-healer who, after some time, was able to heal Dean. Unfortunately, it turned out the faith-healer was using the powers of a trapped reaper, and instead of saving lives, it was just swapping one life for another.

The Pranks

In the episode "Hell House," fans got to see a more fun side to the Winchesters as they pulled pranks on each other. This included Sam putting superglue on Dean's beer bottle and Dean throwing itching powder in Sam's underwear.

For a show that is pretty dark and gloomy, it was fun to see the two just act like brothers and it showed for the first time that the success of Supernatural lay in the chemistry between the lead actors.

Mary Winchester Was A Ghost

By now most fans know Mary Winchester (Samantha Smith), as the recently resurrected no-nonsense hunter who was accidentally killed by the Nephilim Jack.

Yet, in the show's first season Mary played a slightly different role. After her death in the pilot, Mary reappeared in the episode "Home" as a poltergeist who saved the brothers from a vengeful spirit.

"Carry On My Wayward Son" Wasn't In The Finale

For Supernatural fans, the song "Carry On My Wayward Son" by Kansas always gets their hearts aching as it is played over a montage in every season's final episode.

Well, except for the first season. Instead, the song was played in the season's penultimate episode, "Salvation."
