Supernatural Gets Animated in Extended 'ScoobyNatural' Trailer

Supernatural's extended trailer for its Scooby-Doo crossover episode - entitled "ScoobyNatural" - sees Sam & Dean get animated. When a show has been on the air as long as Supernatural - 13 seasons and counting - it can be tough to find ways to spice things up, and keep things feeling fresh for the audience. That's where stunts like "ScoobyNatural" come in. Supernatural has never before ventured into the realm of animation, and it'll present the long-running property with a chance to play around in a new environment.

Of course - as the title implies - the Winchester boys won't be heading into cartoon land on their own. They'll be accompanied by animated icon Scooby-Doo, and his beloved gang of mystery solvers. Scooby-Doo has managed to both survive and thrive as a franchise for nearly 50 years, first gracing the airwaves in 1969, and eventually spawning live-action theatrical films. Scooby-Doo is pop culture royalty, especially for those who grew up watching his various cartoon series on TV.

First announced almost a full year ago, "ScoobyNatural" is finally set to air next week, and is easily Supernatural's most heavily hyped installment in season 13. Preview images and teasers have given the impression of "ScoobyNatural" being a clear labor of love, with pains being taken to accurately capture the Scooby-Doo franchise's classic look and wacky tone. Now, The CW has released an extended trailer for the crossover event, featuring lots of new footage. Check it out above.

One thing reinforced by the new footage in the extended "ScoobyNatural" trailer is that notorious ladies' man Dean has his sights set firmly on the Scooby gang's Daphne. Depending on the era of Scooby-Doo, Fred and Daphne are either close friends or romantically involved, so one wonders if Fred will eventually have something to say to Dean about his overtures. Then again, Daphne herself may get sick of Dean's advances long before that, as he's definitely coming off a little desperate.

Another aspect still unclear is who or what causes Dean and Sam to become trapped in the Scooby-Doo world, and exactly how they'll eventually manage to escape back into reality. Perhaps Scooby-Doo will himself prove more helpful in that quest than it might first appear. After all, in season 9 episode "Dog Dean Afternoon," Dean briefly mind melded with a dog, and gained insight into canine life. Thus, it stands to reason that he and Scoob will be able to relate to each other more closely than one would necessarily imagine.
