The Winchesters team up with Scooby-Doo in the trailer for the animated Supernatural crossover episode, 'ScoobyNatural'. Last night's episode, 'A Most Holy Man', lightened things up a bit by having the brothers head out on a heist to help save their mom and Jack from Apocalypse World. The plot has been a major one for awhile now on the show, as the alternate Michael and his army are planning to bring doom to Sam and Dean's world. But at the end of the month, things will be headed in a more whimsical direction.
Though it's been awhile since Supernatural aired one of its more absurd, meta episodes, they're about to outdo even themselves. The first images and synopsis for 'ScoobyNatural' arrived yesterday, showing what the Winchesters and Cas will look like when they join forces with Mystery, Inc. on the animated plane. And while we don't know much about the plot of the episode, the promise of Sam, Dean, and Cas helping Scooby and his friends solve a mystery is all fans really need to know. Now, we have the first footage from the episode.
The CW has released the trailer for 'ScoobyNatural,' the upcoming episode of Supernatural that will merge the universe with Scooby-Doo. Like the images, the trailer shows the live-action brothers transported into the animated world of Scooby and friends, where they quickly join forces with Mystery, Inc. There's still a few weeks to go before the episode arrives, but it's promising to be one of the series' wackiest yet.
While most fans will have to wait until March 29 to see the episode, the Supernatural/Scooby-Doo crossover will premiere at PaleyFest a week ahead of time. For those attending the event, it will be a nice bonus to go along with the panel featuring the cast and crew of the series.
Supernatural has spent years playing with its fandom and connection to a larger pantheon of shows, from nods to The Walking Dead to visiting worlds where it was a show within itself. And there have been numerous references to Scooby-Doo over the years. The kid-friendly vibe of the cartoon may not seem to pair with the more violent world of Supernatural, but the sense of humor the latter show displays at times should make it feel natural. And in the end, both series about about traveling the country in an iconic vehicle and solving supernatural mysteries. Not to mention, Dean's often comical appetite will be appreciated by Shaggy and Scooby.
Beyond the Scooby-Doo-themed episode, Supernatural might be expanding its own universe soon. We've heard more details on Wayward Sisters, which is expected to arrive this fall if The CW picks it up to series. Supernatural has a long history but it's yet to expand beyond the flagship show. But if the Scooby-Doo crossover is a hit, maybe an animated series is in the future too.
Supernatural continues Thursday, March 29 with 'ScoobyNatural' on The CW.
