Knowing that this is the final season of Supernatural leads us to wonder if our favorite brother duo is going to make it out alive and live to fight another day. While every season they have had obstacles stacked against them (and quite unfairly so), they always came out ahead. Sam and Dean had friends and allies that often swore the type of devotion to them that Dean once swore to his father.

At the core of all the chaos, the brothers had each other, too. That bond, already strong, grew throughout the seasons, becoming admirable to many. Some fans would say that it is the heart of the show. Matter-of-fact when Chuck/God reveals to Becky that he plans to have the brothers kill each other, she's taken back, "You can't do this to the fans." With Chuck/God against them, their foe is all-powerful and all-knowing, leading them into a fight that's particularly impossible. Should they die in the end (the tragic death) or survive to see a new day?

Should Die: Impossible Quest/Task

Castiel, Sam, and Dean are shocked on a hunt in Supernatural season 14

This quest/task is really stacked against them. Not only have they been through a lot, emotionally, physically, and psychologically, but their bodies have as well. In Season 15, both brothers struggle more in their hunts.

Their minds are keen, but their bodies lack the agility from former years. They are broken in more ways than one, and that impossible quest/task is impossible for a few reasons.

Should Survive: Continue the Winchester/Campbell Line

Supernatural Mary and John

Sam and Dean are legacies from two very strong family lines. From their mother, Mary, they have a very strong and historical hunter family. From their father, John, they have the legacy of the Men of Letters, the intellectuals who also fought against the supernatural.

Sam and Dean found out that a cupid, on very high orders, made sure that there was a Winchester and Campbell love match, so that the brothers could be born. We see aspects of these two lines in both brothers throughout the seasons, and it would be a shame to not see the family line continue.

Should Die: Make Room for the Wayward Sisters

Supernatural Wayward Sisters

The Wayward Sisters was the spin-off that was proposed, but it never really got off its feet. We would love to see the spin-off happen because it also has compelling characters and a family. While Sam and Dean are blood brothers, the sisters and the maternal figures in The Wayward Sisters are a makeshift family brought together due to tragedy.

We love Sheriff Jody and how she was able to open her heart and home to these young women despite all the pain she'd been through. In addition, who couldn't use a little Donna sunshine to brighten up the dullest of days.

Should Survive: Explore the Darkness's Connection

Emily Swallow as Amara in Supernatural

The Darkness, aka Amara, had a strong connection to Dean. When she wanted to end her brother, Chuck/God's world, she still couldn't end Dean. Her connection with Dean was so close that she understood what Dean needed most (Mary's return) without him having to ever state or ask for it.

Now, Amara, has pleasantly adapted to the new world (no longer wanting to destroy it), and she's irritated with her brother. If she finds out his intention with Dean, she may put a stop to it. She definitely has the power to do that. While she's not close to Sam, we could see a bond developing over time.

Should Die: Can Be the Ultimate Heroes, Final Sacrifice

Sam cries before killing Madison in Supernatural

Dean and Sam have a habit of sacrificing themselves for the good of the many. Indeed, many friends and allies have also sacrificed themselves for the boys. In Season 15, we see this getting to the brothers even more. Sam admitted that he still misses Jessica. Dean is tired and feels like giving up.

Sam encourages Dean to fight another day. He tells Dean that while they may not make the rules, they do break the rules. That give them hell attitude could equate Dean and Sam to Norse mythology in which the good heroes didn't win, but they still fought a hell of a fight. Also, we could see Dean and Sam sacrificing themselves to find a way to bring back those friends and family who were treated like toys for Chuck/God. For instance, they both would do nearly anything to bring back their son, Jack. Perhaps, they could pass the torch to him, have hunting and saving the world become his legacy.

Should Survive: Live to Be the Next Bobby

Bobby was a wonderful hunter, friend, and teacher. He kept up the network of hunters and shared his knowledge with all. In the case that he didn't have the knowledge at hand, he would find it out. While Dean and Sam do this to an extent, we would want them to take it one step further.

They could truly develop a solid network, teach and train, and continue Bobby's legacy. Although, we do have to say, no one could really ever be Bobby. He is one gem (that hopefully will also be brought back, at least for a cameo).

Should Die: Hard to Return to a Civilian Life

Dean did try to do this once when he thought that Sam was locked in Lucifer's cage. He had promised Sam that he would try. Although he loved Lisa and Ben, he never really adapted well to civilian life.

Sam also has said that he couldn't go back to his life before hunting. If things become calmer, initially these two might toast themselves, but later their purpose in life would feel unfulfilled.

Should Survive: Give Them a Chance at Peace and Happiness

Sam and Dean toasting with beers in Supernatural

On the other hand, even if they find a civilian life hard to adjust to, they should still have the chance to try one out. We would love to see the two brothers with end up with one of the loves that they had over the seasons, with children, and with Jack back.

They have fought so hard. Let them have a beer and stare into the sunset as many times as they'd like.

Should Die: Chuck/God Wants Them Dead

Chuck/God writes his story in his return in Supernatural

In Season 15, Sam and Dean learn Chuck/God's ultimate plan from Lilith: The world ends with one brother killing the other brother. Chuck/God doesn't care which brother kills which one, but he's obsessed with this narrative plot. First, he had Cain and Abel. Later, he had Lucifer and Michael try to kill each other. Throughout the series, he has peppered it with other sibling pairs in similar forms of conflict, foreshadowing what he has planned for the Winchesters.

Chuck/God has had so much power of them, literally creating their story. It will be difficult to avoid this end, especially if their narrative is out of their hands. However, by knowing Chuck/God's intention, they may be able to resist this fate. . .for a while.

Should Survive: Season 16!

Jensen Ackles as Dean Winchester and Jared Padalecki as Sam in Supernatural

While we doubt that Supernatural would gear up for another season, especially after Season 15 has been proposed as the final season, we can hope for it. It's hard to say good-bye to the Winchesters and their friends as well as their enemies.

We have enjoyed the plot twists, character development, the scares, and the meta moments. Maybe, just maybe, Season 15 has only been teased as the final season. With fan support, maybe we could have at least one season.
