Former Supernatural costars Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki have publicly made amends after their brief conflict on Twitter, which was sparked by the announcement of Supernatural prequel series The Winchesters. The hit CW series finally ended in 2020 after a wildly successful 15-season run, largely due to the incredible chemistry between Ackles and Padalecki. The two stars are friends in real life as well as on camera, so their recent spat drew major attention from the show’s fan base.

The drama began when The Winchesters was announced – a new Supernatural prequel series produced by Ackles and his wife Danneel, which will focus on young versions of Sam and Dean’s parents, John and Mary Winchester. Ackles will also reprise his role as Dean to provide narration for the show. Padalecki, however, apparently didn’t know about the new project until the official announcement. Upset by his apparent exclusion, Padalecki took to Twitter to express his frustration.

Because of the real-life friendship between the two actors, the Supernatural fanbase was somewhat alarmed to see them in conflict. However, the issue now seems to have been resolved. Ackles and Padalecki both took to Twitter to share that they had spoken at length after the announcement, and that there’s no ill will between them. “Bumps don’t stop us,” Padalecki wrote. “Once brothers, always brothers.” Read what the stars had to say below.

It’s unclear as of now if Padalecki will also be involved with The Winchesters, but it seems likely from his comment about the show being in an early state. Currently, Padalecki stars as the eponymous main character of Walker on The CW, a remake of the classic Chuck Norris series Walker, Texas Ranger. Ackles will next appear as original superhero Soldier Boy in season 3 of Amazon’s hit series The Boys.

Near the end of Supernatural’s run, both stars expressed their desire to stay involved with the show’s fan base and return to the franchise some time down the line. The Winchesters will be the first part of that next stage for Supernatural, and it should be interesting to see where the story goes with Ackles at the helm. Mary and John’s past is explored at some length in the original show, but there are still a lot of new directions the prequel could go in and new stories it could tell. The Winchesters has a strong chance of being a big hit with Supernatural fans, especially if both Ackles and Padalecki are creatively involved.
