Supernatural star Jensen Ackles recalls one of his favorite episodes from the long-running fantasy series. Much of the news around Ackles this week has been about his upcoming role as Soldier Boy on The Boys season 3, but he's got one more thing to wrap up: The final season of Supernatural. Ackles has spent fifteen seasons as Dean Winchester, a role that put him at the center of a very dedicated fanbase and made him a bona fide television star. Also starring Jared Padalecki as Dean's brother Sam, Supernatural follows the two brothers as they take up the family business of monster hunting.

The original plan was for Supernatural season 15 to conclude earlier this year, but the coronavirus pandemic disrupted work on the final seven episodes. As a result, fans have received what's amounted to two final seasons. The very first of the last Supernatural episodes premiered last week, and the remaining six will roll out in the coming weeks until the season - and show - concludes in November. In the meantime, fans are left wondering exactly how the Winchesters' story will conclude after their final confrontation with God Himself.

Ackles recently reflected on Supernatural's long-running success with Rolling Stone, where he also shared one of his very favorite episodes. There's a good chance fans will agree with him too, as he named the well-received season 11 episode "Baby." Ackles called it "one of the coolest episodes we had ever done," as it took place from the perspective of Dean's beloved Impala. Ackles delved into the behind the scenes process for "Baby," explaining:

I remember we had outfitted, like, eight cameras in and around and on the car, and then they just set us off. Jared and I were just - he hopped in and we just took off down the road. There was no camera operator, there's no grips, there's no electricians, there's no DP, no director, no script supervisor, no makeup, no nothing...We were doing everything ourselves.

"Baby" was a sort of bottle episode, in that the action was kept exclusively to the Impala as Sam and Dean traveled across the country to hunt a brand new monster. At the time of its airing, "Baby" was greeted with extremely positive reviews from fans and critics; a quick peek on IMDb confirms it's still one of Supernatural's top rated episodes. The Impala is often considered to be like a third Winchester sibling, so it's no surprise that it both got its time in the spotlight and that fans largely enjoyed it.

Making things all the more poignant is the knowledge that Ackles got an Impala of his own when Supernatural wrapped. Padalecki got one as well, but as the car is Dean's "Baby," there's extra emotion in the fact that it went to Ackles. For fans, it'll be quite interesting to see where the Impala ends up when Supernatural concludes; surely it deserves a proper ending just as much as Sam and Dean do. With only six episodes to go, only time will tell if any of them can wow audiences just as much as "Baby" did in season 11.
