The odds are always stacked against the Winchesters, and, most of the time, the boys vow to go down swinging if they have to go down, as shown by this quote from Dean, which is in defiance of the angels and demons.
After being questioned by Bobby on how he plans to fight the angels, demons, and Devil, Dean hits back with this funny and lowkey inspirational quote. Dean may not have all the answers and tools to defy an apocalypse, but he and Team Free Will have enough.
It Turns Out He Was Kind Of Right
"I'm Past Saving. I Know How My Story Ends. It's At The End Of A Blade Or The Barrell Of A Gun."
Nobody hates Dean Winchester as Dean Winchester does, and that is a heartbreaking part of his character throughout Supernatural. Despite Dean's great arc in the first five seasons pointing towards him wanting a family life, he abandoned that post-Lisa and Ben.
This line is spoken to Cole when he is hunting Dean - whom he still believes to be a demon - and is heartbreaking. After experiencing and losing his apple pie life, Dean went back to assuming his fate and ended up dead on a hunt. It is made even sadder by the fact that it eventually came true.
One And The Same
"There Ain't No Me If There Ain't No You."
One of the worst things Dean does to Sam, in the eyes of many, is not letting him go when Sam felt like he was ready, tricking him into accepting angel possession - which backfired. In his attempts to convince Sam to keep fighting, though, Dean hits him with this great line.
This quote is not only indicative of how much Dean relies on Sam - and vice-versa even if Sam would not admit it at this time - which, while toxic, is immensely sad and a good representation of so much of what Supernatural is about.
A Standard Invite To Cas
"Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep, I Pray To Castiel To Get His Feathery Ass Down Here."
Castiel not only has one of the best general character introductions in Supernatural but also several great entrances when prayed for by Dean. This is one of the best instances of that.
Sam's part of this moment that is perhaps the funniest, saying, "He's right behind me, isn't he?" after insulting Cas, who has ignored his prayers. This is a great scene overall, and Dean's half-mocking prayer is one of a couple of standout parts of it, as well as one of the funniest prayers in the show.
One Might Say Carry On
"Keep Grinding. No Matter How Much It Hurts. No Matter How Hard It Gets. You Gotta Keep Grinding."
One of the many talents of Dean Winchester - and Jensen Ackles in the role - is giving inspirational talks about not giving up, not stopping the fight, including this from 'Beyond The Mat."
After admitting to Sam that he is not OK, Dean vows to save Cas, kill the Devil, kill the Darkness, and just win. Sam and Dean both have inspirational speeches and lines that, while surrounded by sad circumstances, get fans pumped up for them to kick some ass, and Ranker deems this one of the best examples.
An Iconic Pilot Line
"Driver Picks The Music, Shotgun Shuts His Cakehole."
Many of the best and most iconic quotes from the show/from Dean are missing from Ranker's list, such as "Saving people, hunting things, the family business." But, this line from the pilot thankfully makes it in Dean's top five.
Supernatural's pilot is such a fantastic introduction to the world and the Sam and Dean characters, and there are few scenes better than this where Sam insults Dean's classic music taste. Even nearly twenty years later, this line still gets quoted by fans and is the cause for a smile upon hearing it.
A Classic Dean Monster Mash-Up
"Vampire Pirates, That's What You Are... Vampirates."
Supernatural has many great running jokes, from Dean's love of pie to "Bitch" and "Jerk" all the way to Dean creating monster mashups such as 'Octovamp,' 'Manicorns,' 'Jefferson Starships,' and, in this instance, 'Vampirates.'
The term was coined when Dean and Benny went hunting down Benny's old nest who were essentially pirates, and the look of pride on Dean's face when he comes up with the name is priceless. Dean may be a hardass, but he is a total nerd in moments like this.
Enjoying The Job
"Killing Things That Need Killing, It's Kind Of Our Job. Last I Checked, Taking Pleasure In That Is Not A Crime."
Moral dilemmas regarding monsters are constantly explored in Supernatural, with Dean having to learn that shooting first and asking questions later is not always the best course of action. As a way of coping, though, Dean sometimes enjoyed shooting too much.
That is what is explained in this quote by him, as Sam points out that Dean is having too much fun killing. While it is their job, and Dean has every right to be as happy or upset as he wants to be, it does say a lot about his psyche and what he is going through that he is overly happy when hacking and slashing away often mindless violence.
Dean & Veganism Do Not Mix
"I Always Knew I'd Find The Source Of All Evil At A Vegan Bakery."
One of the most loved Dean episodes of Supernatural, as well as one of the show's most rewatchable episodes, is 'Dog Dean Afternoon,' which has a silly concept executed wonderfully, thanks in part to Jensen Ackles, who delivers lines like these perfectly.
Dean is known for having a pretty terrible diet and never looking after himself like Sam. Constantly devouring red meat and beer, whereas Sam seems to be more veggie-thinking, it is no surprise to see Dean be so disgusted by the concept of veganism and vegan bakeries. Even veggies and vegans can find this quote hilarious, and clearly, Ranker users do too.
What Is Really Complicated?
"Game Of Thrones Is Complicated. Shower Sex, That's Complicated. Hell, Ain't Complicated. Your Problem Ain't Hell; It's You."
One of the very best relationships in Supernatural is that between Dean and Crowley, and one of its best elements is how Dean calls out Crowley, such as here in 'Do You Believe In Miracles?' when Crowley notes the complexities of Hell.
The line is both hilarious and, seemingly, wildly accurate from Dean's experiences. Game Of Thrones is complicated, and it seems a given that Dean has attempted complex shower sex before, and by the time of season 9, he knows Crowley well enough to know that he is near enough his worst enemy - similar to how Dean is often that to himself. However, as great as this line is, it is surprising that Ranker has deemed it Dean's best given some of its exclusions.
