Few things go together quite like demon slaying and heavy metal, as proven by the official Supernatural season 13 recap shown to attendees at this year's San Diego Comic-Con. The CW's veteran fantasy series enjoyed a dramatic unlucky thirteenth run that featured parallel worlds, shocking deaths, even more shocking returns and the Winchester brothers meeting up with the Scooby Gang for some animated fun. The season concluded with Dean Winchester giving his body over to the parallel universe version of the archangel Michael, who was quick to take the reins of his new vessel and go rogue, apparently finding a fondness for Peaky Blinders-style fashion in the process.

Naturally, given this dramatic climax, Supernatural was commissioned for a shortened fourteenth season and held a panel at Comic-Con International this past weekend that was hosted by none other than God himself (otherwise known as actor Rob Benedict) alongside Richard Speight Jr., who plays the archangel Gabriel in the series. The good-humored session featured all the major cast and producers and lucky attendees were even treated to a brief scene from the forthcoming season 14.

Another clip shown at the panel, which has since been released online by Warner Bros., provided fans with a Motorhead-powered recap of the past season. The clip chronicles all the major events such as the fall, rise, fall, rise, rise, fall of Lucifer, Jack's struggle to control his power, Sam Winchester's latest death and the long-awaited return of Gabriel. Fittingly, the montage ended on the same freeze-frame as the season finale itself, with the Michael-possessed Dean's glowing eyes.

With thirteen seasons in the can, it can be hard to keep up with the other-worldly goings on of the Winchester family and as the recap itself states, it sometimes feels as if the brothers are bouncing from one apocalypse to the next. As such, this handy recap is very welcome indeed and provides an excellent refresher ahead of the forthcoming season 14 which, despite being a few episodes lighter, is bound to be just as eventful.

The recap does, however, also invite Supernatural fans to speculate as to where the show will go next. Clearly, Michael will be the immediate threat when the series returns, but with Jack powered-down and the archangels all but extinct, who could possibly be powerful enough to free Dean from his possessor? Furthermore, the newly introduced parallel universe versions of Bobby and Charlie could potentially feature more heavily next season and this could bring back a similar kind of feel to the older, some might say classic, seasons of the show.
