While Game Of Thrones is a show that only ran for eight seasons with 73 episodes and a pretty colossal TV budget, and Supernatural has 15 seasons and 327 episodes with a not-so-colossal budget, the two shows have striking similarities. Rabidly passionate fandoms, disappointing endings, a criticized decline in writing, dealing with the supernatural, and, of course, some characters being strikingly similar are things that put them in the same wheelhouse.

For most of the main Supernatural characters, there is a Game Of Thrones character to match them up to, which is undoubtedly noticed by fans of both shows.

Garth Fitzgerald IV & Samwell Tarly

Garth and Sam have very little in common regarding physical appearances, but as close friends to the central heroes who are not exactly built for fighting, they are similar side characters.

Both are intelligent individuals and offer humor to their respective shows. Garth's friendship with Sam and Dean is fairly similar to that Samwell has with Jon, with them being pretty oddball-ish. They are intensely loyal and intelligent individuals well versed in the lore of their respective worlds while being incredibly resourceful and genuinely kind individuals.

The Alpha Vampire & Tywin Lannister

The Alpha Vampire is not the first Supernatural character that pops into fans' minds, but the similarities to the Lannister patriarch are striking. If Tywin were a vampire, they would be pretty identical individuals.

Both place such colossal importance on family but have very little actual care for the individuals within the said family, more so just the overall survival and thriving of them as a whole. On top of that, both are articulate individuals, with a very regal posture and way of speaking despite their cruelty and unquestionable violent, volatile side.

Claire Novak/Charlie Bradbury & Arya Stark

It is hard to choose who out of Charlie Bradbury and Claire Novak is the true counterpart of Arya Stark. Both are strong, independent female characters who sum up different sides of Arya's iconic personality.

On the one hand, there is Claire, who is a bit of a loner who got used to being so after losing her family. She has a penchant for revenge as well as kicking ass, just like Arya. Then there is Charlie, someone who also loses her family and finds other allies, making up odd-couples with the likes of Dean. She does not follow any stereotypes and craves adventure in her life, just like Arya does. The three are great, similar individuals.

Rowena MacLeod & Melisandre

In terms of physical appearance, there is no better match between these shows than Melisandre and Rowena MacLeod, two pretty redhead witches. Their similarities do not end there though.

The pair of them, of course, wield incredible magic and power but start their time in the show doing deplorable things, being so unlikable. By the end, though, they try to redeem themselves by sacrificing themselves for the greater good, Rowena by jumping into Hell with the souls Chuck released, and Melisandre by helping during the Battle of Winterfell.

Castiel & Ser Jorah Mormont

Castiel and Ser Jorah Mormont may not seem like two characters with a whole lot in common. In reality, their connection is more profound than a shared physical or personality trait but is a huge aspect of both characters that makes them solid counterparts.

Both Castiel and Ser Jorah Mormont initially worked against the people they grew to protect and fight with (Castiel for Sam and Dean, Jorah for Daenerys). On top of that, they both fall in love with them, with Castiel professing his love for Dean before his death. Speaking of death, both give their lives protecting those they love, Jorah fighting to his last breath to save Daenerys from the Wights, and Castiel giving himself to the Empty so Dean could live.

Lucifer & Joffrey/Ramsay Bolton

Even to fans who do not watch Supernatural but love Game Of Thrones, the comparison between Joffrey and Lucifer is not uncommon. The similarities between the two are pretty straightforward.

The cruelty, evil, love of violence, and pain for no reason may seem to align Lucifer more with Ramsay than Joffrey - and there is a slew of similarities there. However, the fact that Lucifer, on a more fundamental level, is a petulant child with a very high opinion of himself, who is grossly cruel, makes him very Joffrey-esque. Both are the best villains in their respective shows for multiple seasons. In reality, Lucifer is probably more caring and sympathetic than either Joffrey or Ramsay, but if he does have a counterpart in Westeros, it is the inbred Lannister.

Bobby Singer & Olenna Tyrell

Other than perhaps the experience shown by their faces, Bobby Singer and Olenna Tyrell show no physical resemblance to one another. However, the bitterness, intelligence, and overall wisdom they hold prove valuable in their respective shows.

Both are at the point in their life where they have no qualms speaking their mind, no matter how mean they may seem. They are sarcastic, hilarious, irritable, and straight to the point. Olenna is, of course, far more regal than the rough Bobby, but both are wise mentors to their respective families and many fan's favorite recurring characters in each of their shows.

John Winchester & Eddard Stark

As the patriarchs of the central families of both shows, it is effortless to link John Winchester to Ned Stark. However, the similarities do not end there as the two share many qualities.

Both are rugged and tough men and bring that to their style of fatherhood, raising their sons from a young age in a particular lifestyle. They also both keep incredible secrets from one of their sons and have suffered a huge familial loss. Ned and John both die early in their shows attempting to do the right thing for their children and would do anything for them despite how harsh and even abusive they can be towards them.

Crowley & Tyrion Lannister

There may be more similarities between Crowley and Tyrion Lannister than there are between any two respective characters from these shows, from their popularity to their story to their personality.

Both these two are shunned by their families (with Crowley only getting love from Rowena beyond his death and Tyrion from Jaime) and are seen as monsters by everyone. They are also consistently the smartest, funniest, and most articulate characters in the room. Tyrion and Crowley are both incredibly complex, capable of being villainous and heroic despite what the world may think of them. They are a joy to watch in each show.

Sam/Dean Winchester & Jon Snow

Split image of Sam & Dean Winchester and Jon Snow in Supernatural & Game Of Thrones

Jon Snow and the Winchester brothers are the heroes and central characters of their respective shows and the most famous individuals to come out of them. It is hard to say which Winchester is more like Jon, though.

Like both brothers, Jon is in a life of fighting battles and trying to save the world. He is also full of honor and unwavering loyalty, with a deep love for his friends and family. He is also wholly unselfish, willing to put anyone he cares about above his own needs. Like Sam, he starts out feeling pretty out of place, but like Dean, he feels like the only thing he is good for is fighting. All are outstanding heroes.
