Sam and Dean Winchester have spent almost a decade and a half driving around the country in their iconic Chevy Impala,  doing what they do best, "saving people and hunting things." Over Supernatural's fifteen seasons, the brothers had to save humans, each other and the world from a variety of bad guys that have ranged from demons, witches and even God himself.

Some of these villains were absolutely loved by fans and others, fans could not wait to see written out of the show. As the series is coming to an end, it is worth remembering some of these villains. Here is a list of five of the villains that fans loved and five they hated.

LOVED: Rowena

Supernatural has had a number of powerful women on the show but none were as epic as the immortal Scottish witch Rowena. Joining the show in season 10, Rowena became one of the Winchesters' most powerful enemies and, in the end, one of their most loyal friends.

However, long before she decided to switch, Rowena was on a rampage to restore the power that was taken from her by the Grand Coven and later, she even helped Lucifer to escape the Cage. Insanely clever, witty, stylish and unapologetic about who she was, it is easy to see why the villain Rowena was so beloved by fans.

HATED: Azazel

Easily one of the most hated demons in the show, Azazel is responsible for setting up the Winchesters' tragic beginnings. He tricked Mary Winchester into making a deal, killed her and cursed her youngest son, all so that Sam would become Lucifer's true vessel and bring about the Apocalypse.

One of the four Princes of Hell, he was sadistic, cruel and a true believer in Lucifer's plan. He caused the Winchesters a great deal of pain and manipulated large parts of Sam's life, even going as far as ordering Jessica's death. Therefore, it is no surprise that fans were delighted when he was finally killed by Dean in season 2.

LOVED: Four Horsemen Of The Apocalypse

In season 5, the Winchesters had to face the Four Horseman of the Apocalypse: War, Famine, Pestilence, and Death. Commanded by Lucifer, the Horsemen tried to destroy the Earth using their respective powers. Mysterious, extremely powerful and evil, each of the Horsemen were able to beautifully bend the wills of humanity to its own destruction. Luckily, they were stopped by Team Free Will but not before becoming some of the most noteworthy villains of the show.

Death, the oldest of the Horsemen and the most powerful, was even an ally of the Winchesters for a while but was tragically killed by Dean in season 10.

HATED: Dick Roman

Season 7 of Supernatural is considered to be one of the show's least successful seasons and this is partly due to its main villain, Dick Roman. The Alpha of the Leviathans or as Dean used to call him, "Big Daddy Chomper", Dick was easily one of the most poorly developed villains of the series.

Although he did create a Leviathan Sam and Dean which created a pretty nasty problem for the real Winchesters, he was ultimately just not that good of a villain. In the end, Dick Roman was just a poorly rendered caricature of the dangers of capitalism that really didn't have a lasting mark on the show.

LOVED: Crowley

Crowley is a very interesting villain, as in many ways, he wasn't really a villain at all. Joining the show in season 5, he was the Winchesters' best frenemy and has become one of the most beloved characters of the entire series. However, he was always at his best when he was double-crossing the Winchesters and being the conniving King of Hell.

Tragically abandoned by Rowena as a child, he eventually rose up the demon ranks to become the King of the Crossroads. Witty, manipulative and a little smarmy, Crowley was one of the shows most fun villains. Unfortunately, Crowley sacrificed himself to save the Winchesters in season 12 and fans are eagerly hoping for his return in the final season.

HATED: Gordon Walker

The only human on this list, Gordon Walker, was introduced in the show's second season. Gordon was a dangerous and ruthless hunter. Unlike many hunters, he had no sympathy for any supernatural creature regardless if they were good or not. No one was exempt from his rage, even his own sister who he killed for turning into a vampire.

However, the real trouble started when he found out about Azazel's "Special Children" and decided to kill them all, including Sam. Gordon unsuccessfully tried to kill Sam multiple times and even convinced other hunters to go after him. In the end, he became the thing he feared most, a vampire and was unceremoniously decapitated by Sam.

LOVED: Lucifer

It is not often that you hear fans talk about how much they love the literal devil, but Supernatural is just one of those shows. The big bad for a large part of the series, he was cruel, barbaric and had a clear disgust for humanity. Yet, he was also powerful, charming and manipulative. This made him one of the most complex characters of the entire series.

Lucifer, unlike many of the other villains on the show, had no redeeming arc and was genuinely and spine-chillingly evil from his first appearance to his last. Therefore, creating a powerful antagonist for the Winchesters who was always a thrill to watch.

HATED: Amara

God's sister Amara, was first introduced to the show as the Darkness. Trapped by her brother for millennia in the Mark of Cain, she was released by Rowena in season 11. At her worst, she was violent, seemingly had no control over her emotions and became obsessively infatuated with Dean. She spent a large part of the season trying to destroy everything her brother had created and became one of the hardest villains to beat.

Overall, she wasn't well-received by fans but this may change in season 15. Amara is seemingly more matured and she may become the key to finally defeating Chuck.

LOVED: Chuck (God)

Throughout the series, the Winchesters have fought bigger and better villains each season. Therefore, it is only logical that the brothers need to battle the strongest entity of all, God (Chuck) in its final season. Chuck at first seemed harmless if not a little quirky but it soon became clear that he was an arrogant, merciless megalomaniac.

In the last couple of seasons, the writers have carefully crafted him as the show's overarching villain. He trapped Amara for millennia, left everyone to suffer when he could have helped and created multiple worlds and abandoned them as soon as they became boring. Importantly, he manipulated the lives of the Winchesters for the sake of creating an interesting story. In the end, everybody loves a bad guy and in this show, Chuck is the ultimate one.

HATED: Metatron

Supernatural already had a vengeful and egotistical god and certainly did not need another one. In season 8, the writers introduced God's scribe, Metatron. Vengeful towards his fellow angels, he tricked Castiel into giving him his grace to kick out the angels from Heaven and then tried to become God himself.

But, like any man who thinks he is God, he became a ruthless dictator who only caused more damage to Heaven. Eventually, he was stopped by the Winchester's but not before killing Dean and turning him into a demon. Therefore, it is pretty clear as to why Metatron is one if not, the most hated villain on the show.
