One of the things that makes Superman so powerful is that he’s basically indestructible - after all, they don’t call him the Man of Steel for nothing. But while it’s rare that someone can even make Superman bleed, let alone break his bones, there is one hero who managed to do both, and her name is Wonder Woman.

Wonder Woman and Superman have a lot in common - including similar powers like super strength and flight - so the question of who would win in a fight between them has been highly debated over the years. The two have even duked it out a number of times across different storylines in the DC universe - with mixed results. However, the most brutal fight between Wonder Woman and Superman has to be their duel in the Injustice: Gods Among Us Year Four series.

The Injustice: Gods Among Us comic series is a prequel to the popular video game of the same name. Superman, after being brainwashed by the Joker into killing Lois Lane and their unborn child, has snapped. After murdering the Joker, he becomes the dictator of his own regime and rules over the Earth with many other heroes - and even some villains - by his side. While Superman claims his actions are for the greater good, he is no longer the man he was, and his regime turns out to be very oppressive. Only a handful of people oppose him - most notably, Batman. But by Year Four, Batman’s Insurgency is all but broken. With his list of allies thinner than ever, Batman forms an unlikely alliance with Ares, the Greek God of War and longtime adversary of Wonder Woman. Sowing conflict and reaping war are what Ares does best, and he manages to convince the other Olympian gods that Superman’s regime is an insult to their authority. Hera forces Hippolyta, Wonder Woman’s mother, to send the Amazon army to attack the regime. As both an Amazon and a member of the regime, this puts Wonder Woman in a difficult position - which is exactly what Batman wanted.

When the Amazon army arrives on the doorstep of the Hall of Justice, Wonder Woman demands they instead settle the dispute with a Game of Thrones-style trial by combat. Superman volunteers to be his own champion, but for the Amazons, Batman nominates Wonder Woman - and she has no choice but to accept. A ferocious battle between Superman and Wonder Woman ensues. Despite really being on the same side, neither will back down, and Wonder Woman tries to end the fight by breaking Superman’s arm.

Even though Sinestro intervenes before Wonder Woman can deliver the final blow, it’s pretty clear she was moments away from being the victor of that fight. Still, Wonder Woman proved she is one of the few, if not the only one, capable of breaking Superman’s bones. She is not to be messed with.
