Green Arrow is known for his incredible marksmanship, but archery isn't the only deadly skill he has in which he always hits the mark. Believe it or not, Oliver Queen, master archer, is also a master chef, at least when it comes to making the spiciest chili known to man... a chili that not even Superman can handle.

The first appearance of Ollie's intensely hot chili was actually not a Green Arrow issue, but in Green Lantern Vol 2 #85, in which he co-starred. Here, the chili is actually never seen, but simply a line of Ollie offering it to his sidekick Speedy. Unfortunately, the chili is never made in this issue due to the fact Ollie walks in on Speedy doing drugs, but the issue does serve as a clever anti-heroin campaign so at least some good came out of it. Becoming somewhat of an inside joke, this chili pops up time and time again throughout the decades, eventually earning a more important and zany status with time.

While it is well known that Superman is invincible aside from his weakness to Kryptonite, it might come as a surprise that even he can't handle the heat of this dish. In fact, out of the entire Justice League there are actually only two individuals capable of ingesting this spicy bowl. Surprisingly, it isn't someone like Wonder Woman or Martian Manhunter, but two totally human, non-powered members: Batman and the chef himself, Green Arrow.

So why is this chili important? Well, this chili actually helped saved the world. During the events of Trinity, a self contained series focusing on the big three (Superman, Wonder Woman, and Batman), the world was altered to a different reality, leaving the heroes everyone knows and loves lost with no recollection of the reality from which they originally came. Luckily for everyone, in Trinity Vol 1 #38, Batman's memory of the original world is jogged, and it just so happens to be a reminder of the scorching hot taste of Green Arrow's chili that does the trick. That's right, this chili is so spicy that the memory of its taste literally spans time and space.

Even better news is that this isn't only something that is talked about in the comics that fans are left to fantasize about. DC has actually published an official Green Arrow chili recipe! Unfortunately, compared to today's super spicy ghost pepper standards, this chili might not be as spicy as you might expect. But at least you can say you're tougher than Superman!
