Warning! Spoilers ahead for Superman: Son of Kal-El #12

In the latest issue of DC's Superman: Son of Kal-El, even the Man of Steel's greatest nemesis admits that Nightwing is pretty impressive in the current DC Universe. Having been using his newly inherited billions to help the city of Blüdhaven with his mask off, the positive impact Dick Grayson is making has been incredibly transformative. As such, Nightwing has been turning quite a few heads, including Lex Luthor's as seen in this new issue.

Previously in Son of Kal-El, Jon Kent has been grappling with a nemesis all his own in the form of the new Superman villain Henry Bendix, the corrupt president of Gamorra who's been building an army of controllable metahumans known as The Rising. However, he's also been working with Lex Luthor as the two villains have been working to discredit the son of Superman, creating scenarios to make him appear too young and inexperienced to adequately serve as Earth's primary Kryptonian protector. However, Jon isn't short on allies and friends to help him weather the storm. This includes Nightwing who's become Jon's new mentor in the DC Universe.

Now, Superman: Son of Kal-El #12 from Tom Taylor, Cian Tormey, and Ruairí Coleman sees Nightwing helping Superman infiltrate LuthorCorp to learn more about Bendix's plans. Visiting Lex's company under the pretense of wanting to do business, Dick's new status as a billionaire means that Lex Luthor is more than willing to meet. However, Luthor freely and surprisingly admits that he admires Grayson's work in Blüdhaven. Respecting the new infrastructure and foundations Nightwing has created to help the least fortunate in his city, Luthor claims he's even been inspired to do something similar in Metropolis.

While Luthor apparently has plans of his own to reform Superman's city of Metropolis, Dick does warn that it can't just be a cosmetic change. Systems have to be changed right along with hearts and minds, a goal that's easier said than done with Grayson's efforts resulting in the former Robin having a target on his back thanks to Blüdhaven's criminals (both with and without his mask). While it's unclear what Luthor has planned exactly, it's a safe bet that it won't be nearly as altruistic when compared to what Grayson has been doing. After all, Lex is still a villain at the end of the day (hence his work with Bendix and The Rising).

At any rate, the fact that Nightwing has managed to impress Lex Luthor is quite the feat. It's only natural that the Superman villain would respond to Dick Grayson's great wealth. However, Nightwing using his new funds for the greater good is the true sign that he's worthy of respect, making him one of the DC Universe's greatest heroes of all time.
