In order to fight against an enemy that was able to hurt Superman, the Man of Steel revealed his unchained armor, which gave the hero quite the costume change as he traded in tights for an incredible new ensemble. In Superman Unchained #7 by DC Comics, Kal-El realizes he can't fight against Sam Lane's advanced tech without trying something different, leading to the debut of one of his coolest armors ever that made Superman look more badass than ever before while giving him a much-needed power upgrade.

Superman has worn several different armors during his adventures in the pages of DC Comics. While his classic costume will always be his most iconic look, Superman has sported everything from a Metal Men armor, ensembles that protected him against Kryptonite, as well as power armor that gave the hero his superstrength back after he temporarily lost it. Those looks were all great, but his best super suit was his unchained armor, which gave Superman needed protection while giving him his own hammer and shield.

In Superman Unchained #7 by Scott Snyder, Jim Lee, Scott Wiliams, Alex Sinclair, and Sal Cipriano, General Sam Lane and his army camped outside the Fortress of Solitude, threatening to blow it up if Superman didn't give them the technology inside. Unfortunately for Superman, Lane had advanced tech that was able to harm Kal-El, leaving the hero vulnerable to attack. After getting Lois Lane to safety, Superman called on his unchained armor and put it over his costume to take on those destroying his home fortress. He calls upon the Megazord-looking suit, which's powers prove effective against the army.

The unchained armor and powerful weaponry helped Superman take down some of the giant robots attacking the Fortress of Solitude. Like Thor's with Mjolnir, Superman threw his hammer, which pierced through the impressive tech and considerably weakened General Sam Lane's forces. His glowing shield withstood some massive blows before Lane would eventually gain the upper hand and blast the armor apart with Superman inside. Despite his armor breaking after taking shots that probably would have killed Superman, the suit helps him survive long enough to eventually turn the tide in the battle and protect Lois and the Fortress from the deadly attackers.

Without the unchained armor, it's possible that General Sam Lane and his army would have leveled the Fortress of Solitude, stolen its technology, and killed Superman in the process. However, the unchained armor was the perfect counter to the attacks. It allowed Superman to withstand several mighty blows with its sheer power, making sure he could continue to fight on and defeat his opponent. Yes, it was destroyed, but the unchained armor did its job for the hero.
