Warning! Spoilers ahead for Superman: Son of Kal-El Annual #1

In DC Comics' new annual issue for Superman: Son of Kal-El, Jon Kent's return to the Fortress of Solitude hints that Superman may have copied or stolen one of Batman's classic trophies from his Batcave. While the Dark Knight has several trophies from past victories he's collected over the years, the three that are most often seen consistently are a giant penny, an oversized Joker card, and Batman's full-sized robotic dinosaur (specifically a T.Rex). However, it seems Superman surprisingly now has a T.Rex as well, and one has to wonder if it could very well be the same prehistoric lizard.

In Superman: Son of Kal-El Annual #1 from writer Tom Taylor with artists Steve Pugh, Clayton Henry, and Steve Buccellato, Jon Kent returns to the Fortress of Solitude where he meets with an artificial intelligence copy of his father Clark (not unlike Jor-El). Seeing as how the original Superman is currently off in space fighting Mongul and trying to liberate the planet War World, this appears to be the next best thing for Jon as he seeks guidance while attempting to fill the shoes of the Man of Steel. However, an expected guest featured in the Fortress certainly pulls some focus away from their conversation.

For some reason, it looks as though Superman now has a T.Rex amongst his own various trophies and memorabilia, mirroring the one that has long been in the Dark Knight's Batcave. However, could this T.Rex actually be Batman's? Given current events in the DC Universe, Batman isn't living nor operating in the Batcave nor Wayne Manor, seeing as how he's no longer a billionaire after the events of The Joker War. Instead, Batman has been working out of a network of micro-caves he's built throughout the city, decentralizing his efforts (while leaving little room for giant trophies). As a result, it seems as though one of two things must have happened: either Superman decided to keep a T.Rex of his own after some unknown battle, or he agreed to house Batman's T.Rex after the Dark Knight had to abandon the Batcave.

Superman-Fortress-T.Rex

Interestingly enough, the recent Nightwing Annual #1 (also written by Tom Taylor) sees Nightwing and Red Hood making use of the old Batcave during their investigation and the old hideout is largely empty with only a few items left covered by tarps. Likewise, the T.Rex is nowhere to be found in the issue. While it could have just been off-page, it's not hard to make some assumptions when an expected T.Rex isn't seen in the Batcave while a surprise T.Rex shows up in the Fortress of Solitude.

In any case, it seems as though Superman is now the DC hero with a giant T.Rex while Batman is seeming to be without. While it's funny to imagine Superman stealing the robo-dino as a prank, it's more than likely that he's simply holding onto it for his friend in his more spacious Fortress (now being safeguarded by his son). However, it's just as well considering Batman's old vigilante friend Ghost-Maker recently built his own bigger and better cave (complete with a larger Spinosaurus).
