After defeating an evil alien with a newly discovered power, Superman just admitted his son Jon Kent has the potential to become the greatest hero in the DC Universe. The Man of Steel saw his fellow Superman tap into his abilities like he never has before. Witnessing Jon's amazing powers first hand, Kal-El revealed he is so much more than Superman's son and that all heroes will be measured against him someday.

Jon Kent has followed in his father's footsteps and become the newest Superman in the DC Universe. In the Future State event, which transported readers to a dark future timeline, Jon fully embraced the role of Superman and was part of the Justice League alongside a new Wonder Woman, Batman, and The Flash. When DC Comics returned to its present-day timeline and continuity, Jon's journey to becoming Superman became one of the main storylines in the Man of Tomorrow's own ongoing comics. Jon Kent's Superman will also star in the upcoming Superman: Son of Kal-El #1 by Tom Taylor, John Timms, and Gabe Eltaeb.

In Superman #32 by Phillip Kennedy Johnson, Scott Godlewski, Gabe Eltaeb, and Dave Sharpe, Jon Kent battles against the Shadowbreed on Thakkram, where he's told in order to defeat the evil aliens, he'll need to use hyperviolet rays to stop them. After initial doubts he could use his heat vision in a new way, Kent successfully channels the hyperviolet light and takes down the Shadowbreed. Even Kal-El is surprised by the powerful move being pulled off by his son. In the ensuing monologue, Superman admits Jon will be the hero "all heroes will be measured someday," against and that he's the "Superman I aspire to be."

Superman doesn't just see the potential in his son, he realizes how far along he's already come as a hero in the present. His heroism versus the Shadowbreed was an epic display of power, as he saved the day by unleashing a new ability with his hyperviolet heat vision. Jon hasn't even come close to reaching the upper levels of his powers and he's already doing things his father can't. Superman knows one day, Jon will set the standard for what it means to be a great hero.

The Man of Steel has fought with and against some of the strongest heroes and villains the DC Universe has ever thrown his way, so he knows something about greatness when he sees it. He is Superman after all. Kal-El recognizes Jon Kent could be the greatest hero ever and couldn't be more proud of his son. Superman #32 is in stores now.
