Warning! Spoilers for Infinite Frontier Secret Files #4 by DC Comics below.

President Superman shares many similar powers of the original Superman of Prime-Earth, such as super-strength, flight, and x-ray vision. However, both heroes have an oft-forgotten ability that's regularly overlooked: super smell. In a new issue of DC's Infinite Frontier Secret Files #1, Calvis Ellis just used his incredible super smelling to track down a group of invisible heroes.

Calvin Ellis, the Superman of Earth-23, has become a key player once again in the DC Universe in the publisher's expansive Infinite Frontier era. Ellis, who was created by Grant Morrison and Doug Mahnke and first appeared in Final Crisis #7, now leads the Justice Incarnate, a group of the top heroes from across the multiverse. The new version of the Justice League protects each multiverse from the numerous threats across the cosmos. Back on Earth-23, Calvin Ellis holds the dual role of being both the President of the United States and the planet's Superman.

In Infinite Frontier Secret Files #4 by Brandon Thomas, Joshua Williamson, Inaki Miranda, Nick Filardi, and Tom Napolitano, both Martian Manhunter and his Earth-23 doppelganger decide to test a new detection system that identifies breaches in space and time. Since both versions of the hero test the system at the same time, it leads to heroes from both universes sparring on Earth-0. When President Superman arrives on the scene, both Martian Manhunters activate "protocol S" which makes their respective teams disappear. Still, President Superman is able to detect the alien heroes thanks to his impressive sense of smell.

Superman Super Smell

President Superman reveals the illusion doesn't work as well on people with enhanced senses. He slows down and isolates his sensory perceptions, revealing that their smell is what gives them away. Ellis says he can smell Martian perspiration and the oil secreted from the uropygial gland from Hawkgirl's Thanagarian feathers. He also notes his version of Lex Luthor uses the same aftershave as the other universe's version. The group reveals themselves knowing President Superman has easily sniffed them out.

While Superman's super smell isn't used as frequently as some of his other abilities, such as his super hearing or super strength, it's still a part of both the original hero and his Earth-23 counterpart's power set. In this case, Calvin was able to track down a group of heroes who had become invisible simply by recognizing their smells. Hiding from Superman, even when invisible, is never easy. Infinite Frontier Secret Files #4 is currently available online on DC Universe Infinite, the publisher's comic subscription platform.
