Warning! Spoilers for DCeased: War of the Undead Gods #1 by DC Comics

In a brand new look at the upcoming DCeased: War of the Undead Gods #1 by DC Comics, Superman makes a stunning return from the dead as his "Man of Steel" nickname becomes literal thanks to a notable redesign. At San Diego Comic-Con, a preview of the upcoming sequel to the popular DCeased zombie series was revealed. A cured Clark Kent returns from zombification with a metal arm in the images.

The DCeased series from Tom Taylor and Trevor Hairsine is an Elseworlds story about a corrupt version of the Anti-Life Equation infecting the Earth and transforming people (including heroes and villains) into deadly zombies. In a handful of miniseries, numerous heroes, including Superman, become infected with the virus and turn against the survivors. However, in a brand new look at DCeased: War of the Undead Gods #1 by DC Comics, a cured (and redesigned) Clark Kent returns to Lois Lane in a rare moment of hope in the series.

At San Diego Comic-Con, the final chapter of the DCeased series by Tom Taylor and Trevor Hairsine was spotlighted, which included several preview pages from DCeased: War of the Undead Gods #1 being shared. The images revealed that a cured Superman would return and meet up with the surviving heroes, as the "Man of Steel" moniker becomes literal for the hero as he returns with a metal arm in an epic redesign. The reunion between Kal-El and Lois Lane will be emotional as the art from Harisine shows a tearful hug between the two iconic DC Comic characters.

DC Comics also shared several more pages from DCeased: War of the Undead Gods #1 showcasing Superman's new metal arm. Unfortunately, the redesigned Man of Steel doesn't have much time to revel in returning from the dead, as Mister Miracle and Big Barda seem to continue their plan to stop Darkside and end the Anti-Living once and for all. Another preview page features Superman joining Jon Kent and the Green Lantern Corps as they take on dangerous threats from across the cosmos.

Superman's return will inspire hope among the surviving and cured heroes, but the battle against Darkside and the Anti-Living is far from over. The redesigned Man of Steel can help DC heroes turn the tide and stop the war raging across the galaxy, but it won't be easy, even with the universe's most powerful hero back from the dead. Superman and his new metal arm can be seen in DCeased: War of the Undead Gods #1 by DC Comics, which arrives in comic book stores and online retailers on August 9, 2022.
