Warning! Potential spoilers for Superman: Son of Kal-El below!

DC Comics' next Superman will soon take flight and his recently revealed suit appears to be a stellar look for the legacy character. Jonathan Kent will be taking over the role of Superman in the upcoming series Superman: Son of Kal-El, and he will be getting a new suit, similar to his Future State look, to go with the comic. From the looks of it, it's a worthy costume as he takes over for his father.

The Superman family is getting a new era of comics beginning in June, as DC Comics revealed a handful of new titles and updates for the iconic characters. Supergirl will star in her own new series, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, from Tom King and Bilquis Evely. Action Comics will continue under Phillip Kennedy Johnson and Daniel Sampere. And Grant Morrison, Mike Janin, and Jordie Bellaire are teaming up for Superman and the AuthorityMeanwhile, Jonathan Kent will take the role of Superman in Superman: Son of Kal-El.

Superman: Son of Kal-El - from Tom Taylor, John Timms, and Gabe Eltaeb - will follow Jonathan Kent's adventures as he becomes Earth's new Man of Steel. Currently, in Superman's ongoing comics, Kal-El is slowly dying after fighting off a new alien threat, meaning his prophesized death in the 31st Century may be coming true. Regardless of what happens to Clark, Jonathan's time as Superman is coming and DC Connect showed off the new look at his suit as well as a new belt he will wear.

Superman new Costume

The new Superman costume looks great on Jon. The outfit lines up to his Future State ensemble, with a few extra details that are slightly emphasized in his new costume. In the drawing, Superman is younger than his Future State self, so he's a little slimmer. Meanwhile, his belt is quite detailed. The messy hair look for Jon is a nice touch and a good counter to his father's look, which is much more reserved. Also of note, no red trunks!

Jonathan Kent becoming the new Superman should have readers excited. If DC Comics is planning the Death of Superman 2.0, then it would be fitting his oldest son would assume the role in his absence. It's unclear how long Jonathan will be the next Superman, but no matter how much time he gets as the Man of Steel, it's going to be a blast to see him try to live up to DC's greatest hero.
