Superman (Tyler Hoechlin) and Lois Lane (Elizabeth Tulloch) in the Arrowverse

The first official poster for the upcoming, solo Superman and Lois series has been released. Played by Tyler Hoechlin, the Arrowverse's version of Clark Kent/Superman during Supergirl season 2. The character has remained an intermittent presence ever since and was eventually joined by Elizabeth Tulloch as Lois Lane. The pair were introduced to the CW's wider shared universe when they aided the heroes of Arrow and The Flash during the Elseworlds crossover event.  They both served a similar function during the even more ambitious and well-received Crisis on Infinite Earths event, which ran for five episodes at the end of 2019 and the start of 2020.

Serving as both an ending and a new beginning for the Arrowverse, Crisis on Infinite Earths had far-reaching implications. Not only did it serve as the dramatic swan-song for Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) and a changing of the regular superhero guard but it merged various parallel Earths into one. Though previously inhabitants of Earth-38, Superman, Lois Lane, and the cast of Supergirl now lived on Earth-Prime alongside the other heroes - including Batwoman and fellow newcomer Black Lightning. The move directly set up a standalone series for the classic DC Comics hero, which skipped the pilot stage and was immediately greenlit for a full season.

Fans can now get a fresh look at what they can expect from the new, upcoming series. A poster was unveiled on the official Twitter account for Superman and Lois earlier today. The image features both Hoechlin as Superman and Tulloch as Lois, standing together in a traditional power pose that more than befits the iconic duo. Behind them, the equally iconic logo for the Daily Planet can be seen. The imagery is fitting foreshadowing for the fact that Superman and Lois will see them juggling work, superhero duties, and parenthood. Check out the full image and the official synopsis released by The CW below:

In Superman & Lois, after years of facing megalomaniacal supervillains, monsters wreaking havoc on Metropolis, and alien invaders intent on wiping out the human race, the world's most famous superhero, The Man of Steel aka Clark Kent and comic books' most famous journalist, Lois Lane, come face to face with one of their greatest challenges ever - dealing with all the stress, pressures and complexities that come with being working parents in today's society. Complicating the already daunting job of raising two boys, Clark and Lois must also concern themselves with whether or not their sons could inherit their father's Kryptonian superpowers as they grow older. Returning to Smallville to handle some Kent family business, Clark and Lois are reacquainted with Lana Lang, a loan officer who also happens to be Clark's first love, and her Fire Chief husband Kyle Cushing. The adults aren't the only ones rediscovering old friendships in Smallville as the Kent sons are reacquainted with Lana and Kyle's rebellious daughter, Sarah. Of course, there's never a dull moment in the life of a superhero, especially with Lois' father, General Samuel Lane, looking for Superman to vanquish a villain or save the day at a moment's notice. Meanwhile, Superman and Lois' return to idyllic Smallville is set to be upended when a mysterious stranger enters their lives.

Several other details regarding Superman and Lois have emerged in recent weeks. Their teenage sons, Jonathan and Jordan Kent, will be played by Jordan Elsass and Alexander Garfin, respectively. The show will also star Emmanuelle Chriqui as Lana, Erik Valdez as Kyle, and Inde Navarrette as Sarah. Despite being played on Supergirl by Glenn Morshower, the character of Sam Lane will now be portrayed by Dylan Walsh. Wolé Parks, meanwhile, will play The Stranger - which may or may not be a cover for a more recognizable DC villain.

Filming on the show was previously planned to begin in March of 2020. Whether that came to be is unknown. If so, it's equally unclear just how much of the season was able to be filmed before the widespread shutdowns caused by the Coronavirus pandemic. The entire Arrowverse was affected by the situation, with each show except Legends of Tomorrow ending up airing shortened seasons. As such, the release date may well still change from what's currently being put forward. Based on the release of the poster, however, both the production team and the network are choosing to remain hopeful. Fans will no doubt feel the same, with the poster no doubt leaving them eager for Superman and Lois to hit screens sooner rather than later.
