Superman & Lois star Wolé Parks, who plays Steel in the Arrowverse drama, talks about the show's future amid the DC Universe launch. The CW made a lot of changes in 2022, as Nexstar acquired 75% of the network. While the Arrowverse has been one of the cornerstone franchises for the network, several Arrowverse shows got canceled throughout the year. One of the remaining DC TV series that is returning this year is Superman & Lois, which will premiere season 3 on March 14. The Lane-Kent family drama will be followed by the series premiere of Gotham Knights, as The CW's newest DC TV entry this season.

Screen Rant recently chatted with Parks ahead of Superman & Lois season 3 and what is coming up in the series. When asked if he has been following the development of DC Studios with James Gunn and Peter Safran, Parks had nothing but praise for the upcoming DC Universe. Not only is Parks already a fan of various Gunn projects, including Peacemaker, but the Superman & Lois star has his eyes set on a particular DC Universe project.

I would love it. I'm a fan of James, I watched Peacemaker, and I love The Suicide Squad. I think he's amazing, I would love to, of course! To keep it real, I know probably as much as you know, this is all very fluid. But it's not even just DC, it's the entire studio landscape right now [including] network TV. So I don't know, I would love to see where something goes. Ultimately, our show is not going to go forever, of course, it's just the reality of it. They've already announced that there's going to be a 10-year plan where it's all one unified universe like Marvel. I know our show will not go forever. Would I love to still be a part of it? Yeah, and to keep it real there - the idea of that Green Lantern show with John Stewart and Hal Jordan, [Lanterns,] like a True Detective version of that? Would I be upset if I somehow got to play John Stewart? No! [laughs]

Will Superman & Lois Season 4 Happen On The CW?

With the announcement of the first half of the DC Universe's Chapter 1, "Gods and Monsters," Gunn and Safran were asked about the future of Superman & Lois. According to Gunn, he expects Superman & Lois to go on for one or two more seasons. It's worth noting that despite Gunn's comments, Superman & Lois' future on The CW is not guaranteed. While Gunn believes another season or two may happen for the show, DC Studios have no involvement or control over The CW's programming decisions.

Since The CW is making a lot of changes with its programming strategy, Superman & Lois season 4 may not be as safe as some think. According to several recent reports, The CW is only expected to bring back a handful of returning shows for the 2023-2024 TV season. Initially, the network was reported to bring back five or fewer original scripted series. But as of late, the number has now gone down to three or less, which includes the already-renewed All-American.

Time will tell if Superman & Lois season 4 will be a possibility on The CW. It might also depend a lot on the ratings as the new owners behind The CW follow Superman & Lois season 3's reception. Hopefully, in case another season doesn't happen, the Superman & Lois writers are crafting a season finale that could serve as a series finale if need be. But for the time being, fans can tune in to Superman & Lois season 3, starting Wednesday, March 14, at 8 PM on The CW.
