The CW's Superman and Lois show casts the iconic couple's two sons for the DC series. The Arrowverse is in for a change following Crisis on Infinite Earths that altered Greg Berlanti's DC franchise forever. With Arrow finished, the lineup of shows is already in process of evolving for next season. Prior to the five-part crossover taking place, The CW revealed its plan for a Superman spinoff series as it got into active development for the pilot season. From former The Flash showrunner Todd Helbing, the spinoff would focus on Lois and Clark tackling the challenges of parenthood.
As Crisis on Infinite Earths was set to resume last month, The CW went ahead and ordered Superman and Lois straight to series. This marked the first time that any new DC TV show got an early series pickup by The CW. With the events of the crossover changing the larger continuity, it directly pulled a twist on the upcoming Superman show. Before the crossover conclusion, casting notices had gone out for two teenage boys, one presumably being an aged up Jon Kent. Following the new status quo, Clark and Lois now had two teenage boys instead of baby Jon. As production is set to begin later this spring, the series has found the Man of Steel's two kids.
Now, Deadline reports that Jordan Elsass and Alexander Garfin have landed the series regular roles of Jonathan and Jordan Kent respectively. Given the boys are the same age, it's meant to be believed they are twins. Warner Bros. TV describes Jonathan as "clean-cut, modest and kind-hearted, with an aw-shucks attitude that somehow doesn’t seem dated," which matches the "Matthew" role in the audition call.
Fans initially had speculations that the other part of "Ethan" was possibly Damian Wayne aka Robin, Batman's son, in disguise. Instead, it's for an original part that doesn't currently seem to be based on any established DC character in the Superman canon. Jordan is the opposite of Jonathan as the network describes Garfin's character as incredibly intelligent, but "his mercurial temperament and social anxiety limits his interactions with people," causing Jordan to be more of a loner who uses a lot of his free time for video games.
The news doesn't indicate whether or not the boys will have inherited Clark's Kryptonian abilities. The chances are high, though, that Superman and Lois will go with a Super Sons direction, implying they may be a handful, following Lois' comment in the Crisis finale. With production approaching, more casting will unveil additional characters joining the series. Enthusiastic viewers should expect the first look at Superman and Lois sometime in May during The CW's Upfronts.
