Season 3 of Superman & Lois is officially a go at The CW. Premiering in January 2021, Superman & Lois follows the titular characters as they raise their twin sons, Jonathan and Jordan Kent, in Clark's hometown of Smallville after Martha Kent has passed away. Throughout the course of the show, various elements of the Superman mythos, like the character of Steel, Maxwell Lord, and Bizzaro have been brought into the series.

Superman & Lois was popular when it first aired and was quickly picked up for season 2, which began airing in January 2022. It stood apart from other series in the Arrowverse with a different visual style and being a more standalone story, making a new jumping-on point for viewers who did not see prior shows. The show's popularity and the lack of any news of a Superman movie at Warner Bros. seemed to indicate Superman and Lois would get a season 3 order soon.

Now, The Wrap has confirmed The CW has officially renewed Superman & Lois for season 3, alongside renewals for other CW series, like The Flash, Riverdale, All American, Kung-Fu, Walker, and Nancy Drew. There's been no word on when season 3 will air, but it seems safe to say it will be January 2023 as both previous seasons have aired in the mid-season for The CW. The series will likely consist of 13 episodes as both prior seasons were also.

The news of the renewal also comes on the day season 2, episode 8 will premiere on The CW after the series took a two-week break. It is also worth noting Superman & Lois and The Flash have been renewed, but other CW Arrowverse series like Legends of Tomorrow and Batwoman have not. While the series could still get a renewal, with the news of the new DC series in development at The CW, Gotham Knights and Justice U, the Arrowverse could be pivoting in a new direction with a new set of characters taking the lead.

For what plans the third season of Superman & Lois holds remains to be seen, but there are plenty of storylines to pull from and various threats. Superman & Lois draws heavily from the DC Rebirth storyline, and in that story, Lana Lang was given powers and became the new Superwoman, one that could be brought over into the series and open an exciting new dynamic between the main characters. The series could finally bring in Jon Cryer as Lex Luthor, who was a popular villain on Supergirl to face off against Superman and explore new dynamics between the villain and hero. Other potential foes could include Darkseid and the New Gods, characters whose film project was scrapped and could now be integrated into the Arrowverse.
