David Ramsey, who portrays Arrowverse's John Diggle, will seemingly return for Superman & Lois season 3 following the big season 2 twist. Superman & Lois season 2 had an interesting turn this year as the finale finally answered one of the show's biggest mysteries. Since Crisis on Infinite Earths, Superman & Lois has done little to knowledge its place in the larger franchise, despite claiming to be set on Earth-Prime along with the other shows like The Flash, Supergirl, Arrow, and more. The five-part crossover's whole point was to bring all the current shows together to exist on the same Earth.

While Arrow's Diggle appeared in Superman & Lois season 1, the show still was very limited in acknowledging the rest of the franchise. Whether it was referencing Clark Kent's cousin Kara Zor-El or other heroes like The Flash, Superman & Lois just went on with season 2 without talking about its place on Earth-Prime. However, the Superman & Lois season 2 finale took a sudden turn when they had Sam Lane reference that the show doesn't take place on Earth-Prime after all. Despite being tied to the Arrowverse, Superman & Lois now exists on an unspecified Earth.

As Superman & Lois exists in a different universe, it also cleared up Diggle's season 1 appearance, with this being a doppelganger and not the Earth-Prime version. While the Superman & Lois season 2 finale established that this is a new Diggle, season 3 will seemingly give more answers about this character. Ramsey, who portrayed Diggle in eight seasons of Arrow, was recently at the London Film and Comic Con (via Daily Geekly) where he confirmed to a fan that he will be back in Superman & Lois season 3. Not only will Diggle return for season 3, but Ramsey is also set to direct another episode of Superman & Lois.

While The CW and Warner Bros. TV has yet to make any formal announcement for Diggle's return, it makes sense given the events of the Superman & Lois season 2 finale. In episode 15, titled "Waiting for Superman," Diggle returned to Smallville to pay John Henry Irons a visit. Despite this being a doppelganger, this Diggle still works at ARGUS and informs Steel that he has found who murdered the John Henry Irons of this universe. According to Diggle, Bruno Mannheim, who is the leader of Intergang, was the man responsible for getting this world's Irons killed. Diggle offered John the chance to take Bruno down, which sets up Superman & Lois season 3.

It always felt like an obvious choice to have Diggle be present in Superman & Lois season 3, especially as part of John's Bruno-related storyline. Given the big Earth-Prime twist in the Superman & Lois season 2 finale, having Diggle return next season allows the show to further expand what else is different with this Diggle. With Superman & Lois as one of the few remaining Arrowverse shows, Ramsey only has this show and The Flash season 9 to appear on, only this time he is now playing two Diggle doppelgangers. Since Superman & Lois season 3 won't premiere until 2023, it will be quite some time before more information on Diggle's storyline is disclosed.
