The CW has renewed Superman & Lois for season 2 after airing just one episode. The Arrowverse's iteration of Superman (played by Tyler Hoechlin) was first introduced in the second season of Supergirl and, over the years, appeared in various crossovers as a significant player. Elizabeth Tulloch's Lois Lane joined him in those annual events, and it was last year's Crisis on Infinite Earths that paved the way for Superman & Lois to be created. The series premiered just last week after months of anticipation and introduced a brand new version of the iconic DC characters.

Since Crisis on Infinite Earths left Clark and Lois with the surprising realization that they suddenly had two sons as opposed to one, Superman & Lois follows the two as they juggle the responsibilities of parenting alongside their world-famous personas. The Superman & Lois premiere threw several surprises at fans, from the reveal that socially anxious Jordan (Alexander Garfin) might have inherited some superpowers from Clark to the identity of Wolé Parks' Stranger. Clearly, this series has a lot of excitement planned.

And it's a good thing it does, because there will be even more of in it in the future. Per EW, The CW has renewed Superman & Lois for season 2 before its second episode has even aired. The series premiere was met with impressive ratings, which likely led to this early renewal. The network's president Mark Pedowitz said this in a statement:

"The phenomenal multiplatform debut of Superman & Lois, which delivered for us in a big way on both a linear and streaming basis, is a testament to the creativity, hard work and dedication of the talented people who worked tirelessly in front of and behind the camera, especially in this challenging environment. We are thrilled to now have two brand-new bonafide hits in Superman & Lois and Walker, both of which have been renewed for next season along with 11 other of our shows, further positioning us for continued strength and stability for next season."

This news comes after almost every other currently airing Arrowverse show has been renewed for the next season. While Supergirl and Black Lightning will end their runs with their next seasons, The Flash, Batwoman, and Legends of Tomorrow have all been granted additional episodes. That Superman & Lois has now joined them isn't too surprising, since no Arrowverse show has been cancelled after just one season. Most likely, the only reason why it wasn't renewed with the rest is because it hadn't begun airing. Now, though, it's a guarantee: Lois and Superman will be back for more adventures.

Of course, before one can truly begin to consider Superman & Lois season 2, they have to get through season 1. As the second episode will air tonight, there's still so much to be revealed about what's to come. The Superman & Lois series premiere set up some major developments, and the next episode will surely expand upon them. Superman & Lois' episode count was bumped up when the rest of the Arrowverse was renewed, so there are still several installments to come before the season's end. Now fans can relax when they tune in, safe in the knowledge that season 2 is already on the way.
