Warning: Spoilers for Superman & Lois season 2, episode 10!

The Kent boys have been gradually developing their powers on Superman & Lois, and the show has dropped its biggest hint towards Jonathan Kent gaining his. Following another Superman & Lois season 2 break, the show returned on April 26 with the episode "Bizarros in a Bizarro World". Following Superman (Tyler Hoechlin) entering the portal to the Bizarro world to bring back Ally Altson (Rya Kihlstedt), the episode centers much of its attention on Bizarro's family and his former life. However, in addition to this main narrative focus, the episode laid out a potential road-map for Jonathan Kent's power acquisition.

Once treated like a celebrity as the Superman of his world, Bizarro had a tense relationship with his family, especially his son Bizarro Jonathan (Jordan Elsass). In full possession of Kryptonian powers, Bizarro Jonathan originally wanted to be a hero alongside his father. Instead, he's taken in as a follower of the Bizarro Ally, and this points to Superman & Lois' main Jonathan developing his powers to their fullest as a contrast to the aggression of Bizarro Jonathan.

Jonathan's had quite a story in Superman & Lois season 2, beginning to awaken his powers with his use of X-Kryptonite while on the Smallville high school football team. Neither Clark nor Lois (Elizabeth Tulloch) approve of this and reprimand Jonathan upon discovering it. Despite it not being an advisable decision, it was still driven by very human feelings on Jonathan's part. These included the use of X-Kryptonite by other players and his envy of the powers of Clark and his brother Jordan (Alex Garfin). However, while Jonathan's own powers are in their infancy, the episode also showcased what his fully-formed powerset might look like, thanks to the appearance of Bizarro Jonathan. As such, the series provided a major indicator of how Jonathan may evolve moving forwards.

Bizarro Jonathan has his own chip on his shoulder with his father becoming absorbed in his fame and superhero work, but he channels it in more insidious ways than Jonathan did. Bizarro Jonathan, enticed by Bizarro Ally's plot of merging people with their alternate selves (possibly enabling her to become Parasite), aligns himself with her for both power hunger and spite towards his father. When he arrives at the Kent farm at the end of the episode, he has the express purpose of forcefully merging with Jonathan and taking out anyone who stands in his way.

While Superman & Lois gave brief peaks of Jonathan's abilities with his X-Kryptonite use, it doesn't seem likely that that and Bizarro Jonathan's turn to villainy will be the only contexts where his powers will be shown. Bizarro Jonathan is also showing rejecting the moniker of Superboy as a suggested hero name, despite donning a shirt and leather jacket similar to those of Conner Kent a.k.a. Kon-El in the comics. Such a backhanded Superboy Easter egg, with Superboy candidates like Jordan and Jonathan on the show, doesn't seem like something Superman & Lois would be inclined to do with the show's predilection for nodding to every aspect of the Superman mythos it possibly can. While the name might not work for Bizarro Jonathan, the Kent sons of the Arrowverse are a different story.

With Jordan's powers growing more and more commensurate with those of his father, it's hard to imagine him not fully honing them as he rises to become a hero himself. That and the flipside Bizarro Jonathan represents to the primary Jonathan of the show makes a strong case that the latter might not be that far behind for much longer. Superman & Lois has kept Jonathan far behind his father and brother in the scope of his dormant powers. With Jordan potentially helping to save Clark with his powers, the arrival of Bizarro Jonathan also argues more than anything for a superpowered Jonathan in the near future.
