A new image of a Superman & Lois script includes the title of the forthcoming first episode of season 2. The latest entry in the Arrowverse, Superman & Lois stars Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch as the iconic superhero and reporter, respectively. Rather than exploring the superhero’s origins, the series focuses on a more mature phase of the couple’s life together. It follows Clark and Lois’ move back to Smallville when they discover that one of their twin teenage sons, Jordan, possesses super powers.

The CW renewed Superman & Lois for a season 2 in early March based on the strength of the pilot episode, which aired in February 2021. Little has been revealed about season 2 plot details, but much of the cast is expected to return, in some cases with more fully fleshed out roles. For example, Sofia Hasmik was promoted to a series regular for the next season. Season 1 also featured Erik Valdez, Inde Navarrette, Wolé Parks, Adam Rayner, Dylan Walsh, Emmanuelle Chriqui, and Jordan Elsass and Alexander Garfin as the twins Jonathan and Jordan Kent.

Tulloch took to Twitter to post a photo of the new Superman & Lois script, and the picture reveals that episode #201 will be titled “What Lies Beneath.” Tulloch’s excited caption reads, “Day one, Season Two!” The photo also indicates that the episode was written by Brent Fletcher, a writer for Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and the series’ co-creator Todd Helbing. Gregory Smith is set to direct. Check out Tulloch's post below:

Tulloch’s post confirms that things are up and running for production on season 2. That being said, Superman & Lois likely won’t return until 2022. This is due in part to an already busy fall lineup for The CW. Stargirl’s second season didn’t premiere until August and will be broadcast well into September. Similarly, Supergirl’s finale is scheduled to premiere on September 21. Other Arrowverse shows, including The Flash and Batwoman, will fill out the bulk of the lineup.

With new Arrowverse episodes slated to come out this fall, audiences are potentially set to see some highly anticipated crossovers between series. For The Flash’s season 8, The CW has confirmed a five-episode Arrowverse crossover event titled “Armageddon.” However, in announcing cast members for the the five-part story, Superman & Lois characters are conspicuously absent. It’s unclear whether this exclusion is by design, or if it merely came down to scheduling issues. In any case, Superman & Lois season 2 presents an opportunity for the series to achieve more cohesion with the rest of the Arrowverse.
