Warning: Spoilers for Superman & Lois season 2, episode 15

The final episode of Superman & Lois season 2 wrapped up the show’s Bizarro World story with a huge Arrowverse reveal, a new Diggle tease, and several more noteworthy moments. Superman’s final showdown with Ally Allston closed the door on an important chapter in the lives of the Kents. With Ally beaten, the characters are free to move on to all-new dilemmas when the series returns for its third season.

For the first half of the season, there was a bit of uncertainty over who the season’s big bad really was. First, there were all the hints of Doomsday, but all that turned out to be one big red herring to mask the presence of Bizarro. But then, he wasn’t the main villain either. Further adding to the confusion was Anderson, whose dislike for Superman drove him down a dark path. But amid all the chaos, it became apparent that the real threat facing all of the show’s main characters was really Ally Allston. Merging with her counterpart from Bizarro World made her a challenging foe that even Superman himself wasn’t even able to beat – or at least, not until the finale.

Superman & Lois season 2, episode 15, titled “Waiting for Superman”, unsurprisingly put the fate of the Earth in Clark’s hands once again. Ally’s power-draining abilities had seemingly taken the Man of Steel out of the equation in the preceding episodes, thus forcing characters like Jordan, Steel, and Natalie to step up in his absence. But in the end, it was Superman who came to Earth’s rescue when the situation was at its worst. Here’s how Clark beat the Arrowverse’s Parasite so easily, and what the episode’s other big moments mean for the series going forward.

Superman & Lois Is Not On Arrowverse's Earth-Prime: Confirmed

As Superman & Lois showrunner Todd Helbing promised earlier in the season, an explanation for why the Flash and Supergirl haven’t been around finally came in the season 2 finale courtesy of Sam Lane. When making a point about how Superman could succeed with his plan to stop Ally, Sam said he’s seen “leagues of superheroes” across the universe, but “we only have your father on this planet”. It’s important to note that Sam hasn’t forgotten about all the heroes Superman has teamed up with in the past; what his speech means is that all these characters simply don’t exist in Superman & Lois’ continuity. Even though “Crisis on Infinite Earths” put Superman on Earth-Prime and made it possible for all of the Arrowverse’s heroes to interact with each other, the show has elected to create its own Superman who exists on an Earth that is a duplicate of Earth-Prime, albeit without any other heroes.

Superman's Power-Up & How He Defeated Ally Allston Explained

Superman Lois Power Up Finale Sun

Despite already being one of the most powerful heroes in DC Comics, Superman became stronger than ever for the fight with Ally Allston. In a risky bid to get his powers back, Clark convinced Adam Rayner's Tal-Rho to take him into the sun, believing that its solar energy would provide his cells with the energy he needed for a complete and immediate recharge. In episode 14, Superman was told that he would eventually get his abilities back, but it could take months or even years for the sun to transform his cells back to what they were before. Doing it this way enabled Clark to take a shortcut to regaining his powers. Not only that, but it gave him a massive but temporary power-up that proved to be too much for Ally to handle. Attempting to take his abilities overwhelmed her to a point where Clark was able to effortlessly split her apart from her Bizarro self.

Diggle's Cameo Sets Up Superman & Lois Season 3's Villain

In the aftermath of Ally’s defeat, Steel received a surprise visit from David Ramsey’s Diggle. Diggle has now set him on a collision course with Intergang and DC Comics mobster Bruno Mannheim. It would seem that Intergang is responsible for the death of this Earth’s John Henry Irons, which is an event that the main characters learned about in season 1. From the looks of things, Superman & Lois is positioning Intergang to be season 3’s villains. But based on the show’s track record, it won’t be a surprise if Intergang turns out to be another misdirect meant to hide the next main antagonist.

Only 1 Main Character Doesn't Know Clark Is Superman Now

When Superman & Lois season 2 kicked off, there were four major characters who didn’t know Clark Kent and Superman are one and the same. But by season’s end, the series was left with only one key character who’s still in the dark. Not long ago, Clark decided to tell Lana the truth. In season 2’s penultimate episode, Sarah witnessed Jordan using his powers, which led to Lana telling her the rest of the story offscreen in the finale. To top it all off, Lois made Chrissy Beppo the latest person to know Clark’s biggest secret. The only major character who still doesn’t know is Kyle, and for now, that’s unlikely to change. Kyle may be friends with the Kents, but his relationships with them are hardly close enough to make telling him the truth necessary.

Superman & Lois' Ending Supports Tal-Rho Replacing Bizarro Superman Theory

The finale all but confirmed the theory that Tal-Rho will become Bizarro Superman’s replacement. His final scene showed him arriving on Bizarro World and inquiring about Bizarro Tal-Rho's wife. His decision to relocate to “Weird Smallville” makes sense, considering that he’s still known as the villain who nearly conquered the world on Superman’s Earth. On Bizarro World, Tal-Rho can start anew and take Bizarro Superman’s place as the planet’s greatest protector. It’s possible that fulfilling that role will give him a new purpose in life.

What We Know About Superman & Lois Season 3

Superman & Lois Worlds War Bizarre pic

Superman & Lois has already been renewed for a third season. Similar to The CW’s plans for season 2, the show won’t be a part of its fall schedule, which makes it likely that Superman & Lois season 3 will once again premiere sometime in January. An episode count hasn’t been announced, but since the first two were comprised of 15 episodes, the same is to be expected of the show’s next chapter, which is certainly sounding like a fight with Intergang.

What Superman & Lois Season 2's Ending Really Means

The Superman & Lois season 2 finale has a number of important implications for what comes next for the Kents. The Intergang tease is a sign that organized crime will be a major element of season 3’s story. And since this revelation was delivered by Diggle and not Sam Lane or a random government agent, there’s a good chance that he’ll be a recurring player when the show returns. Also, the developments that occurred in Superman & Lois season 2 have created a pathway for nearly every main character to become directly involved with Superman’s next fight. Now that there’s no longer a need to keep secrets from Chrissy, Sarah, and Lana, Superman & Lois season 3 can tell a more streamlined story than the previous two seasons. Any of them could potentially pay a visit to the Superman family's new Fortress of Solitude, which Clark constructed in the ocean for all of them to use in the trails ahead. Even Jonathan, who still doesn't have powers, could end up participating in the action. A line from Clark about Jonathan potentially taking interest in the fortress' technology indicated that he could somehow use it to his benefit.
