The Superman & Lois season 2 finale will finally explain its Arrowverse connection, with one particular character being the one to set it up. While Superman & Lois season 2 has been getting to the bottom of the Bizarro World storyline, there is one plot point that the DC drama has yet to tackle. Since Superman & Lois premiered in 2021, one of the biggest questions circulating in the fandom has been the significant lack of Arrowverse connections, despite being set on the same Earth as the franchise's other shows.

Following Crisis on Infinite Earths, all the Arrowverse heroes were established to be living in the same shared universe, with a rebooted continuity. However, despite this connection with the rest of CW's other DC TV shows, Superman & Lois has still not mentioned key players like Supergirl, one of Clark Kent's remaining living relatives. Earlier this year, Superman & Lois showrunner Todd Helbing confirmed that the end of season 2 will finally answer those questions.

With only two episodes left to air for Superman & Lois season 2, the big mystery is finally close to being wrapped up once and for all. In a recent interview with TV Insider, Helbing spoke again about how the Superman & Lois season 2 finale will reveal how the show fits into the larger Arrowverse. Without giving away too many details, Helbing confirmed that the way the franchise ties are explained will be through a pivotal character. During the Superman & Lois season 2 finale, Lois and Lucy Lane's father, Sam, will be delivering a speech that makes it clear where the show falls in with this shared universe. Helbeing explained:

“[General Lane (Dylan Walsh)] mentions [things] where you’re gonna be like, ‘Wait, what?’ And then he gives a speech that is very clear. You learn everything from him, General Lane has the most inspirational grandfather/father moment that he’s had so far in the series.”

Superman-And-Lois-Star-Explains-The-Lack-Of-Arrowverse-Connections

Despite the lack of Arrowverse references in Superman & Lois seasons 1 and 2, it has always been evident that the show is set on Earth-Prime. The key indicator was a visit by David Ramsey's John Diggle in Superman & Lois season 1, where he referenced some imperative Arrowverse plot points. Not only was Oliver Queen's death referenced, but Diggle's Green Lantern storyline was also alluded to. Ramsey is set to appear in the Superman & Lois season 2 finale, and his appearance will reportedly be integral to setting up season 3. This, combined with Helbing's comments about Sam Lane, teases that Superman & Lois season 3 will be dealing with the wider Arrowverse in a much more direct way.

In terms of what Sam's speech will detail regarding Superman & Lois' place in the Arrowverse, there are a few potential outcomes. A popular theory is that Superman & Lois actually takes place several years into Earth-Prime's future. Another is that Superman & Lois is still taking place in the present time, but that perhaps something happened between Clark and the other heroes after Crisis on Infinite Earths. If there was a conflict between Superman and the other Justice League heroes, that would justify why Clark and the others haven't referred to these characters. That said, the bigger mystery will be how the series justifies the lack of Kara mentions, especially after Superman's infamous cousin came out with her secret in the Supergirl series finale. With the Superman & Lois season 2 finale set to air next week, it won't be long until the show's place in the Arrowverse is finally established.
