The first season of Superman and Lois will get additional footage and scenes for fans to enjoy on the CW app the day after they broadcast. Superman & Lois premiered on the CW with an extended hour and a half pilot episode. The extended episode paid off for The CW as it had the biggest premiere in the network's history, and now fans will get to experience even more of the new series.

The series follows Superman and his wife, Lois Lane, as they move back to Smallville and attempt to raise their two sons, Jonathan and Jordan Kent. While the family adjusts to their new life, Superman is faced with a new antagonist in the form of a mysterious stranger and Lois investigating the shady business practices of Morgan Edge. The series will go on hiatus for a month and be filled out by Supergirl, but the series will return in May and has been renewed for a second season.

According to Deadline, starting with episode 2, each episode of Superman & Lois' first season will feature additional scenes and footage online and on CW's app. The number of additional scenes and footage will vary depending on the episode. After the finale of Superman & Lois, the entire first season will be available to stream for free with no subscription required on the CW app and CWTV.com until 30 days prior to the premiere of the second season.

The nature of streaming the episodes online allows them to be longer than the additional hour-long block the show has on a network, with a quarter of that time being blocked off for commercial breaks. The CW app still features commercials, but the lack of a strict one-hour block allows the episodes to be however long they need to be. This is similar to what happened with the first season of Stargirl, which would premiere on the DC Universe app and featured longer episodes. When the show was broadcast the next day on The CW, the Stargirl episodes would be cut to fit within the programming block.

Superman & Lois releasing more scenes and clips from the series shows that The CW recognizes the hit they have with audiences and the excitement over the character of Superman. While many have wondered about the character's place in the modern pop culture world, when he lands correctly he seems to be a big hit. When Smallville premiered in October of 2001, its pilot garnered 8.4 million viewers and became the highest-rated new series for the WB and went on to run for ten seasons. Superman & Lois has done something similar with the CW generating large viewer numbers and strong critical reviews right out of the gate. With a new Superman reboot film in the works from J.J Abrams and Ta-Nehisi Coates, it shows that there is still a desire to see stories about the Man of Steel.
