A Superman & Lois Arrowverse spinoff TV show is in the works at The CW, with Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch set to reprise their roles. Hoechlin originally joined the Arrowverse in the Supergirl season 2 premiere, which also marked the show's move to The CW from CBS, where its first season originally aired. Hoechlin has since reprised his role as Kara Danvers' (Melissa Benoist) cousin Clark Kent aka Superman a handful of times. Meanwhile, Tulloch joined the Arrowverse as Lois Lane in last year's Elseworlds crossover event.

It was during the Elseworlds crossover that fans last saw Hoechlin and Tulloch's Superman and Lois Lane. The duo got engaged and announced Lois was pregnant, before heading offworld to Argo City. However, both Superman and Lois Lane are expected to return for the Arrowverse's 2019 crossover, Crisis on Infinite Earths, which kicks off later this year. In fact, Crisis will include a few Superman actors, with Hoechlin reprising his Arrowverse role, Smallville's Tom Welling returning as Superman and Superman Returns star Brandon Routh suiting up Kingdom Come Superman. Following Crisis, it seems The CW is also looking to give their own iconic comic book couple their own series.

Now, TVLine is reporting that Superman & Lois, a spinoff focused on the couple as played by Hoechlin and Tulloch, is in development at The CW. The series will feature the characters as the navigate life not only as parents, but with Clark's double life as Superman. The logline reveals the series will follow "the world’s most famous Super Hero and comic books’ most famous journalist" as they "deal with all the stress, pressures and complexities that come with being working parents in today’s society." Former The Flash showrunner Todd Helbing will write and executive produce Superman & Lois, while Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and Geoff Johns are also on board as EPs. Earlier this month, FandomWire reported a Superman TV show was being developed but its future would depend on how Hoechlin and Tulloch are received in Crisis on Infinite Earths.

Tyler Hoechlin as Clark Kent aka Superman and Elizabeth Tulloch as Lois Lane in the Arrowverse Elseworlds crossover

Superman & Lois won't be the first live-action TV show to follow DC's beloved couple. In the 90s, Dean Cain and Teri Hatcher starred in Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman. However, Superman & Lois has a slightly different premise, being part of the Arrowverse and following the lives of its lead characters as parents. Both Cain and Hatcher have appeared on Supergirl, the former as Kara's adoptive father Jeremiah Danvers and the latter as Queen Rhea of Daxam. Curiously, Cain and Hatcher won't return as Lois and Clark in Crisis on Infinite Earths, despite their connection to the Arrowverse already and their history with the Lois & Clark roles.

As it stands, Crisis on Infinite Earths is expected to have a massive effect on the Arrowverse as a whole, but it's unclear exactly how it will set up Superman & Lois. News of the spinoff does seem to confirm Hoechlin's Superman will survive the conflict, unless the show takes place in the time between Elseworlds and Crisis. Certainly, even if the show is set after the Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover concludes, Superman & Lois could feature flashbacks to their time in Argo City. More info on the Superman Arrowverse spinoff remains to be seen, but fans should get a better idea of what to expect once all five episodes of Crisis on Infinite Earths air this December and January. Until then, they can speculate about what they hope to see in Superman & Lois.
